Sabres Fan in NS Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 The NHL has their prediction article up and they have this interesting sentence in there... "The Pittsburgh Penguins, who won the Stanley Cup in June, were picked by two voters to repeat as champions. The Detroit Red Wings, in 1997 and 1998, are the most recent team to repeat." Didn't the Blackhawks repeat as champions... I feel like I remember that happening. https://www.nhl.com/news/2016-2017-predictions-from-nhl-experts/c-282554762?tid=282278696 I think the Leafs defensive core looks more promising. I think their forwards will be a step below Buffalo. About this year though, we have seen how much 99% of rookies struggle in the NHL first season. I have no reason to think Matthews and fellow rookies will fall into that category as opposed to McDavid's. Is that your question? Anyway, no. The Hawks did not repeat, at least not recently and I don't think they ever did. Quote

WildCard Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 It had Matthews like 10 lower than Jack as rookie, but so few players have moved from the Swiss league to the NHL I'm not sure how predictive it really is for Matthews.Does that model also take into account linemates, pp time, and toi? I feel like there may be too many variables here Quote

Sabres Fan in NS Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 LA won in between didn't they? Boston and LA and then LA again. 2010 = Hawks 2011 = Bruins 2012 = LA 2013 = Hawks 2014 = LA 2015 = Hawks Quote

Derrico Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 Wow. Maybe I am a homer for really believing they should make the playoffs this year? Or TSN is bush league. I think I know the answer. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 Does that model also take into account linemates, pp time, and toi? I feel like there may be too many variables here It's not a model at all, it's just the average scored by players in X league compared to how many they scored in the NHL the next season. Quote
WildCard Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 Well, . Maybe they were right :( Quote

rakish Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 (edited) /snip/ thinking Detroit will collapse this year. I also think Ottawa will collapse, making my bottom 5 Vancouver, Detroit, Ottawa... oh, let's have some fun, Winnipeg, and Carolina. I guess I need to reassess my 'Thomas Vanek rule', which had previously worked so well Edited October 27, 2016 by rakish Quote
