LGR4GM Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 I am sticking with my prediction of 18 goals. I hope he beats that mark. I really do. Quote
Samson's Flow Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 I am sticking with my prediction of 18 goals. I hope he beats that mark. I really do. Well he already has 4 goals in 5 games. I'd think he should be able to luck into 14 more goals in the remaining 77 games, but stranger things have happened. Quote

And then like 2 in the next 60 or 70 games? It's certainly possible that happens again. Quote

It's certainly possible that happens again. Certainly possible. But my counterpoint is it will be pretty difficult to push him out of a top 6 role given the injuries to our roster and his production thus far. Last year his decline came because we had Eichel, Reinhart, Kane, ROR etc. far more deserving of top 6 minutes than Matty Mo. I don't see guys like Larsson, Girgs or any of the young forwards making a more compelling case than Moulson. Quote
pi2000 Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 Let's pretend Moulson manages to maintain his 30-40g scoring pace on a line with O'Reilly and Okposo. Â Â What happens when Eichel and Kane return? Â Â Do you go Reinhart/Eichel/Kane? Â Â But what if Ennis and Reinhart are producing? Â Â Put Kane on the 3rd line? Â Â i really wish we would've moved Kane for defensive help by this point. Â Â Quote

His tenacious forecheck and "lone wolf" offensive game would be great for the 3rd line since it wouldn't handicap the top two lines. Quote

Drunkard Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 If he scores 30, he's either getting protected, or traded at the deadline.   They won't lose a 30g scorer for nothing.  I predicted 30g in the bold prediction thread and got lambasted for it... so you better believe you're all going to hear about it when he's lighting the lamp :P  If Moulson was on an expiring contract I could definitely see a team picking him up at the trade deadline but with 2 more additional years I find it highly unlikely. That Aud Smell Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 The world is such a funny place. Â Had I been told weeks ago that Moulson would have 4 goals through 5 games, I'd have been all 'sign me up!' Â Not so much, turns out. Quote

Whoever we trade him to can expose him the expansion draft or do whatever they want with him.   I guarantee every single cup contender will be knocking down GMTMs door to get their hands on a 30g scoring version of Matt Moulson, if for nothing else than to bolster their power play for a Cup run. That Aud Smell Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 ^  That contract, though. Quote
Thorner Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) ^  That contract, though.  Ya, I mean, the team acquiring him may have a hard time getting rid of him if that's the path they choose to take. It limits the team taking on his contract. Edited October 26, 2016 by Thorny Quote
Randall Flagg Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 ^ Â That contract, though. Yeah, no way they do that. Especially not as a deadline addition. Â Vegas is our best shot, I think. Keep giving Moulson that PP time, DD. Quote

Tondas Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 What to do with Moulson? At this point, with our offense, clone him. Quote
atoq Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 I see Moulson keeping this pace and they'll have to protect him in expansion draft. They can't lose a 30g scorer for nothing. But why stop there? Let's extend him to a 5x5 to lock him up until he's 40 before his value skyrockets leading team canada to gold in Pyeongchang. I only worry he'll lose the motivation to get better with the fat paychecks because of his questionable character. Lets not forget he quit his education after cornell to cash in playing hockey. Quote

You are full of it. You can't guarantee anything and most of the team that are contenders for the cup won't have the space to add a $5 million winger that scores most of his points on the power play who is already on the decline age wise and still has 2 years left on his contract. So not only would the market for him likely be extremely limited, I highly doubt the few GM's that would even be interested would be knocking down the door to try to pry him off our roster. I'm as happy as anyone that he's back to producing but your ballwashing on his behalf is reaching ridiculous levels. Edited October 27, 2016 by Drunkard Quote

So you think every single playoff team this season will be within $5mil of the cap?  Blashpemy!  There absolutely will be some playoff out there that has the cap space and needs not only a weapon on the PP,  but a veteran presence in the locker room.    If NSH can give us a 1st for Gaustad, there's no telling what some team might offer for a 30 goal scoring PP specialist. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 The NHL is different now than it was when we got a 1st for goose. That stuff doesn't happen anymore. Â With Moulson's contract we should be thrilled to get a 7th for him. Quote

There was a good article on this subject earlier this year during the trade deadline. That market is not what it used to be. The days of getting a 1st for a guy like Gaustad are gone. Jiri Hudler moved this past deadline, and only fetched a 2nd and a 4th (in different years). Quote

That's all it takes is one team to lock in on him as a key piece... and there aren't many guys in the league like him who can bury on the PP, so there will be a market for him.   And I'm not saying we're going to get a first.... my point is that if he's on a 30g pace, near the top of the league in PP goals, there will a team willing to trade something for him, which is much much better than letting him go to Vegas for nothing in the summer.
