Goodnight, David ... goodnight, Chet and Walter Cronkite.

I'm not quite 50, so I should probably get off the lawn, but if you remember the wheelchair juggling dude who sold peanuts in front of the Aud can I get a day pass?

I remember him well. Wore an army jacket and gloves with the fingers removed, if I recall ...

The great Pop Rock run (and scare) of 1976 (?). It was hard to find them and they were actually being sold for obscene profits at school. (God, we were druggies.) Then the story came out that someone somewhere (Mikey, maybe) died after eating too many Pop Rocks and drinking a Coke. Stomach exploded. Also, Bubble Yum gum had spider eggs in it. I always believed that one. There were tiny egg-like thingies in it.

Using the Beta Capsule, Hiata becomes ULTRA MAN !!!!

I remember I was playing outside when they landed on the moon, so my dad told me to come in and watch it.  I was only 5 and didn't care.  I stuck around for 5 minutes and then asked him if I could go back outdoors.

Anyone remember the Tarzan guy at the Aud?  If the game was late in the 3rd period and the final outcome was not in doubt, some guy in the stands would do an awesome Tarzan yell.  It got to the point that in games like this, everyone would get really quiet in anticipation.

I also remember the figure skating ladies who came out on the ice before the players and refs did when the game was ready to start.  There were 2 of them in silver spangly costumes and they both had two sabres.  They would wait for the refs to skate by the nets and then they would throw the sabres toward the refs, narrowly missing them and sending the sabres into the nets.

(younger) - walking everywhere

(older) - riding my bike everywhere

tv channels that shut down at midnight with the national anthem and started back up in the morning with the national anthem.

You want to play a sport?  Find some buddies, choose teams and play.  None of these organized leagues (town, travel, etc).  You want to play hockey?  Wait 'till winter and the pond freezes over (or play in the street with chunks of snow marking the goals)

As others have said, landing on the moon, party phone lines and "be home when the street lights go on"

rotary phones

No 911 - 232-2121 and 225-2525  (local fire and police)

What was the word that made up the 1st couple digits of YOUR phone number.  Mine was 'Northfield' - NO3-2517

JFK, RFK, MLK  :(

Having a cop visit the house to talk to me for some reason or another and getting slapped upside the head by mom or dad even before they heard what happened.  A cop wants to talk to me about something - I MUST'VE been doing something wrong.  Also, substitute 'teacher' for cop.

Growing up on the shores of L. Ontario - want to go swimming?  Go behind so-n-so's house and jump in.  No pools. No need for parents.  Just do it.

board games

returnable bottles - I know we have them now but back in the 60's how many kids would look for them to get the .02 or .03 back so they could load their pockets up with candy and gum?

I remember most of this stuff and I'm only 31. Y'all are a bunch of fake old people.

Yep, same here. I was around for like 85% of this stuff. Maybe it's their oldness that won't allow them to remember anything from farther back. Or maybe nothing interesting happened "way back when"

Southside Junior High, Father Baker Victory High School, being threatened to be taken to Father Baker's if you were bad, Bishop Timon Annex (for freshman), seeing Dick Weber and Earl Anthony at Airport Lanes, actually seeing Cookie Gilchrist, Billy Shaw, Elbert Dubenion and Jack Kemp play football, going to a Buffalo Bisons hockey game with the Pepsi bottle cap logo, nickel candy bars, family owned grocery stores, PAL baseball leagues, Republic Steel, Bethlehem Steel, Allied Chemical, Catholic grammar schools, Sattlers, when Humboldt Park was a white neighborhood.

Emergency Hospital,

You know you've entered the elderly age when a female doctor gives you a prostate check, WHOA!!!!!!! I've done some kinky things in my life but that wasn't one of them

Well, BFLO is about 15 years behind the rest of the country. Didn't black Starter coats and poof hair just go out of style?

More recently than I'd care to admit, I was horsing around on my sons' old Razor scooter and went over the handlebars, pancaked on the driveway, and broke two ribs.

If there were video, I'd imagine it would be hilarious. Not one of my finer moments.

And don't go home until the street lights come on. Speaking of which:

Touch football in the street, lamppost to lamppost.

Giving rides to friends on the handlebars of your bike.

Oh crap yea... Kick the can on Summit Ave in summer. Street hockey in the snow in sneakers with tennis balls. Had a racing slick on that day glow burnt yellow banana seat bike. Picking up pig iron from tracks and the rope swing behing Nichols school in the ditch behind on the rope swing.

Salambas pool tables when I was 15.
