I don't know Hope Solo as a person.  I can't comment on who or what she is.

 

I can say that she demonstrated, at least for a few post game minutes, a complete lack of understanding of everything competition can and should be.   She missed gracious, too.   She found petulant, immature and entitled.  She missed "rise to the occasion".

 

If she were 13, I'd whisper in her ear "hey, you missed an opportunity to approach it this way ... think of what each approach says about who YOU are ... when you talk about opponents, people learn more about YOU than the opponent you're describing"

 

Ugh ...

She demonstrated it in-game, too, with her changing gloves stunt that didn't work.  You know what might work, Hope?  Picking a side and diving towards it like every other goalkeeper in the world.

Why weren't there multi-page threads about how she has no place playing for "our team."

Because she's a pretty white girl, he's a scary black man, and racism is alive and well in Buffalo?

 

Or maybe it's because she's a soccer player and this is a hockey forum?

 

Maybe a combination of both?

As a fellow sore loser, I suppose I'll defend Hope Solo's comments to a point. I'm not sure calling the other team cowards was the right way to go, but I love when athletes are something other than cliché-spewing robots.

I remember there being quite a stir about it when it actually happened, although maybe not on this board.  She was suspended for 30 days.
