That Aud Smell Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 I would look more to the policy of the department. ie, they were just following policy. i guess it's possible that there's an oft-ignored policy that the police were invoking when they did that. however, i'd bet dollars to donuts that it was not in keeping with their practice to do so. Doohicksie Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Autocorrect: perp walk became perk walk. I think the message is targeted to Kane himself. This stuff isn't tolerated in this town... kind of a scared straight thing. Quote
Stoner Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Battista? I'm glad you said it. Do you have a car-starter? What perks did they get? Oh, jeez. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 I think it's maybe not totally insane to think -- as some here have -- that the Sabres somehow encouraged the scared-straight-cuff-em tactic from the BPD. I don't think that's what happened. But I also don't think it's crazy to think it did. And something about this conversation prompted me to remember one of my favourite Simpson lines ever: Quote

If you're in serious trouble in Buffalo, he's on the short list. 2. If you knew Cambria's history, you'd know how much funnier that pun is. He rose to prominence as Larry Flynt's lawyer, and his firm has many major clients in the porn industry. Edited August 1, 2016 by Eleven Quote
Ducky Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 I'm sure once some money is spread around the witnesses won't come forward or forget the incident....sound familiar? Quote
That Aud Smell Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) The civil complaint from the December incident has hit the 'net. While the Bottoms Up incident seems unlikely to yield a "good" plaintiff, I'm not so sure the same will be said of the Harborcenter incident. I only know the person who shares the plaintiff's name through common acquaintances, but she and her family struck me as good people -- the person I have in mind was still in high school at the time that I met the family. nfreeman Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Regarding the December alleged incident -- is there any evidence that supports the accuser's version of events? If so, why did the BPD decline to pursue it? Quote

bcsaberks Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Regarding the December alleged incident -- is there any evidence that supports the accuser's version of events? If so, why did the BPD decline to pursue it? IDK but I read some of it, googled a bit, and got mad. She's brave. She could just walk away and go about her life anonymously. Instead she's taking him on, probably because it was that bad and she doesn't want any more victims. I hope Terry and Kim Pegula read it themselves and think hard about what message it sends when they continue to employ and promote a man who behaves this way. Quote
darksabre Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 why's that? Botching an investigation resulting in dropped charges? Clearly there's a disconnect here between the legal system and the alleged victim. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) IIRC, there was talk about how the complainant did not initiate the police report (not sure who would have (hospital? Passer-by?)) and that she had some memory loss/impairment issues that were presenting obstacles to going forward with a criminal investigation. But a fuzzy memory is less of an obstacle in a civil lawsuit. Botching an investigation resulting in dropped charges?Clearly there's a disconnect here between the legal system and the alleged victim. Clearly? Botched? I'm not so sure. Anyway, the police don't generally bear any civil exposure for the good faith performance of official duties. (I'm excluding the whole lethal force thing.) dudacek Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) I am avoiding passing judgment on Kanes guilt or his suitability to the team until the facts are presented in a court of law. I will allow that I have long ago decided I want him nowhere near my daughters. With that out of the way I am far more troubled with the allegations presented in the civil suit than the current legal court case. On the surface I find it pretty easy to project the Bottoms Up incident as douchey hockey player has douchey interaction with douchey bar patrons, where there may have been a history. Nobody hurt. The December incident is guy meets girl, takes her out for dinner and back home, she somehow gets injured in the process, perhaps seriously. The lack of charges mitigates in Kanes favour, but how badly was she hurt, and how did it happen? Edited August 2, 2016 by dudacek Quote
