Randall Flagg Posted August 8, 2016 Author Report Posted August 8, 2016 And we are back for the stretch run, there will be no more missing numbers. Number 65 has three wearers. The most recent, Brian Flynn. Hopefully this is the last time I ever think of his time as a Sabre Then, Travis Turnbull? I don't remember this. And the first member of the Sabres to wear it: Quote
Eleven Posted August 8, 2016 Report Posted August 8, 2016 Mark Napier was very involved in fundraising for cycstic fibrosis research. Young children with the disease can't pronounce it, so they're taught to say that they have "65 roses." That's why Napier selected his number. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted August 8, 2016 Report Posted August 8, 2016 Cool as hell, Eleven. I wish all "vanity numbers" had a good story like that behind them. Quote
Eleven Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) I don't have a good story for 64. Sorry. (EDIT: It's a square and a cube? anyone care?) But the Napier one was true. He used to go to a lot of Buffalo events for CF kids. Edited August 10, 2016 by Eleven Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 10, 2016 Author Report Posted August 10, 2016 Sure Apparently he played one NHL game in his career, in the 99-00 season . Finished with zero PIMs, zero points, and a minus one. Quote

MattPie Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 That'd be 16 You;'d think a guy that does IP subnets on a really regular basis would have caught that. Quote

thewookie1 Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Cool as hell, Eleven. I wish all "vanity numbers" had a good story like that behind them. From wiki, Jágr wears the number 68, which he has worn through his entire career, in honour of the Prague Spring that occurred in Czechoslovakia in 1968 and his grandfather, who died while in prison that same year. pi2000 Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Man alive. Moravec's stick is about 2 feet long and candy-cane wrapped, along with the black tuuks, just brutal.... no wonder he played a grand total of 1 games in the NHL.... which I guess isn't bad for an 8th round draft pick. Those don't even exist anymore. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 10, 2016 Author Report Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Tyler Ennis is the lone 63. He has played in many jerseys for a short period of time here. side note: it's a pain in the ass to find pictures that can be posted here. Edited August 10, 2016 by Randall Flagg Quote
pi2000 Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 What a boost that would be to have Ennis back at full capacity. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 What a boost that would be to have Ennis back at full capacity. A-freakin-men. He prompted my favourite Lindy-ism* ever: Greasy. *I realize that's probably not a term Lindy coined first, but that is who I heard it from. Quote
qwksndmonster Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 I was thinking about Ennis today. I passed a tennis court and thought. T. Ennis. I love Ennis. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 Balls! Sleepyhead! and Max, a favorite Sabre of mine before I understood anything about hockey. Quote
dudacek Posted August 14, 2016 Report Posted August 14, 2016 Schaller picked the Bruins over us. I expect him to get booed every time he comes to Buffalo. Him and Ruhwedel and that Drake Caggiula prick. Quote
