This hasn't been talked about much but he needs to sign by this spring/summer or we risk losing Cal. He's a big hope for our future goaltending. Kid can play.

Certain posters have been freaking out about it

After Vesey, alot of people are worried that the top college players will go the FA route. If I were Cal, I'd use the threat to get a bigger first contract from the Sabres and force them to burn a year this season. However, I'd sign here simply because the opportunity is there for him to be in the NHL pretty quickly. I doubt he'll view Ullmark and Lehner as real competition long-term.

I'm just not very high on Petersen.   Let's compare him to Ryan Miller's final 2 years in college.

Miller:

2000-01: 1.32 GAA, 0.950 sv, 31-5-4

2001-02: 1.77 GAA, 0.936 sv, 26-9-5

Petersen:

2015-16: 2.20 GAA, 0.927 sv, 19-11-7

2016-17: 2.21 GAA, 0.927 sv, 19-10-5

Petersen is a good college goalie, Miller was one of the best ever.

I don't see Petersen ever becoming a regular starter in the NHL.

You could be right, but I don't think the comparison to Miller is ideal. The college game has changed. The players are bigger, stronger, faster and there are more legit NHL prospects then ever before. I'd like to see a comparison to goalies who more recently made the jump to the pros. How does his numbers compare to Schneider, Talbot or Hellebuyck? EDIT: I did a quick look and his numbers are similar to Talbot and Schneider, but Hellebuyck's are more similar to Millers. Connor Hellebuyck (UMass-Lowell):

2012-13: 1.37, 0.952, 20-3-0

2013-14: 1.79, 0.941, 18-9-2

2016-17 (WPG): 2.83, .908, 22-17-3

2015-16: 2.20, 0.927, 19-11-7
2016-17: 2.21, 0.927, 19-10-5

Corey Schneider had 2.15 and 0.925.

I have never seen Petersen on a top 100 prospect list.

I could be wrong but I wouldn't imagine too many goalies make those types of lists.

Perhaps Miller had a better D in front of him.  Lot's goes into this equation.

If Enroth was put on the rack and stretched six inches.

i was just talkin' head shots. the foreheads are where i see the resemblance.

Hmmm.

Maybe it's just that they both look Swedish.

Ink, have you watch an ND hockey game? The guy has played over 76 straight games and leads the NCAA in shutouts and is nominated for the Hobey Baker.

I'm fully aware of his prowess. I still think he has a big fore... Er... Five head.

One small correction: his GAA is 2.12 this season, not 2.21

The true sign of greatness and the similarity I see is both of their left ears are lower.

He'll never be able to hear the puck correctly when it's coming from the blue line. This is VERY troubling.
