North Buffalo Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) Perhaps you don't understand what that actually means. There are 29 teams that would sign him. He chooses where he wants to go not us. Your stance is absurd.Never played poker before? You force his hand in a way that makes show his cards by inference. So you know his intentions that he may not want to otherwise tell you. Edited July 1, 2016 by North Buffalo Quote
SDS Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Never played poker before? Vesey is staring into his hand and has a royal flush and you have a pair of twos. Go ahead and bluff him. Absurd. Quote
North Buffalo Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) Yeh but which royal flush, hearts, spades, diamonds or clubs... hopefully Sabres. Knowing is important to know because Sabres may need to fold and move on. New hand, new table, new players. Edited July 1, 2016 by North Buffalo Quote

Would the Sabres have not gone after Stamkos nor signed Okposo if he was in the fold at 12:01PM? I don't know. But if we're to believe the scuttlebutt that he likes us, why screw around until the middle of August? It's not like he can get more of a contract, as I understand it, anyway. Better to be in the system as soon as possible IMHO. Quote
beerme1 Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 He could also be direct to the point and simply say he's going for August 15th. Simple yes or no. Not complicated. Gotta say North Buffalo's stance is not absurd. Hasn't that been stated by the agent maybe?? Quote

Gotta say North Buffalo's stance is not absurd. This is what pissed David Poile off. Vesey absolutely told the Preds he'd sign with them at the end of his college career, but that a Harvard degree is something he needed to achieve. So, the Preds stood by him for 4 years. Then at the last minute he told the Preds "I never intended to sign with you." Dick move. Within his rights. But, still a dick move. I have to believe the Sabres traded for his rights only after getting some sort of indication that he'd sign with Buffalo. Otherwise it is a waste of a draft pick on the part of Murray. We shall see... Quote
North Buffalo Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) If he doesnt sign now it effects his status on Sabre roster imo, would need to go to Rochester or 4th line. Nylander may show Vesey as unecessary this year.??? Especially with Okposo. Not sure he'd be happy with those circumstances. Edited July 1, 2016 by North Buffalo Quote
akm Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Free agency is literally the most valuable commodity for any professional athlete. To suggest that he just give that away to do the Sabres a favor is ludicrous. We're talking about the guy's livelihood here - let him get all the offers and make the best choice for him and his family. I'd do that, and you would too I imagine. Waiting for free agency isn't him slapping you or your team in the face, I promise. Quote

It's not like he can get more of a contract, as I understand it, anyway. Better to be in the system as soon as possible IMHO. Because he's going to have to wait at least 4 more years before he's in this place of choosing his own destination again. Technically, nobody else can talk to him, so he doesn't "know" what else is out there. Playing w/ Eichel has to be extremely attractive to him & my guess is that's where he starts the season. But, what if Chicago tells him we'll put Toews & Kane back together & you're the winger? (It's not going to happen; but if he signs in Buffalo today, it absolutely doesn't happen.) Somebody else suggested it, but if getting him locked up this week is TRULY critical to the Sabres planning (not convinced it is), the Sabres could allow him to speak to teams before August 15. Then, he'd know what's available & see that it isn't better than what he'd get here. And the Sabres could have certainty w/ whether he's here or not. Quote

dudacek Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) I'm surprised at the angst an hour after the signing period opened. Pretty sureMurray said "I'm booked on the first. Let's get together on Saturday or Sunday and see if this is as good a fit as we both think it is. Vesey might say this looks good, you are definitely a fit, But I waited this long to take a look around, I'm going to see that through. Or he might say it, this is everything I'm looking for. You got a pen? Either way is perfectly understandable. Buffalo shows him respect, they will score points. If they squeeze him now, they'll lose. Edited July 1, 2016 by dudacek Quote

apuszczalowski Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Eric Lindros called to say hello. Eli Manning was on hold for you. The answer to your question is like a paid athlete. A very well paid athlete. Oh and while he was checking his feelings Marc Andre Fluery called in to say you should never lose your job due to injury. while I agree, Lindros and Manning were both top picks in the draft and highly touted prospects coming out of college. Vesey was drafted in the 3rd iirc and stayed in college were he played pretty good. I don't get the hype for him and this could very likely end up just like the last highly sought after college FA who went on to be over hyped and bounce around the NFL (can't remember his name but bounced around with the ducks and oilers outcome) Quote

Not good business for them. Especially if he is trying to play it like an NBA guy. He has a bird in hand that to my eye, obviously dont know what his preferences are, but is a good if not great fit. If that is not where he wants to be then the Sabres. need to determine it fast and move on. Quote
