I think Arizona is headed in the right direction though. After this year, they will start improving with all of their forward talent. They just need to find a way to re-sign the young guys as they come up and actually build a winner. No one wants to cheer for a loser.

No doubt they've got a good thing going. Strome's development will be key because there's some talk the team doesn't think he's ready for the NHL again this season.

Crazy to think about how Arizona probably gets Auston Matthews if he's three days older. Big step down, but I still think Strome can be very good.

Also crazy to think that if BUF beat ARI on 3/26/15, Eichel is a Coyote.

Friedman: Sean Monahan extended in CAL. Seven years, it's around Nathan MacKinnon's AAV ($6.3M).

Anyone agree Calgary should be CGY instead of a name that can be confused with a state or is too similar to another state.

I can get there if we can also get to a place where easy two-letter abbreviations don't have to go to three.

I don't need to see LAK for the Kings.  LA does it.

Same for SJS.

Or SFG in baseball.

Etc.

This is interesting. For some reason I always read "SJS" as San JoSe

Lost me.

SJS stands for San Jose Sharks.

Like LAK stands for Los Angeles Kings.

Like SFG stands for San Francisco Giants (that's baseball, and I'm not being condescending; just in case you don't know baseball, ok?)

SJS does NOT stand for San JoSe.

It's stupid that those cities need a third letter on the scoreboard.

I hope I have led you to safety.

Haha ya I got all that. I was merely pointing out that my brain read "SJS" particularly as just "San Jose", inclusive of the "S" in the abbreviation. Was just a throw away comment that I read that specific short form incorrectly.

But I do thank you for your time, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Internally I pronounce San Jose as San Josie, but never aloud.  That would bug San Joseianites people from San Jose.

But getting back to 2 letters vs. 3, there are dilemmas with Columbus and Colorado, and the Isles and Rangers.  Besides I would rather have the Sabres as BUF than BU or BL, etc.  Terribly important stuff here.  Sometimes I think October is NEVER going to get here!

Pretty sure at this point even September will be welcomed for camp purposes and the World Cup of Hockey.  Although there didn't seem to be much discussion of Team USA's hockey dominance in the under 18 tournaments recently.

Thanks for posting this. This theoretical framework is something I'm very interested in. I think analysis that focuses on "flow" is going to be huge for player analysis and coaching strategy. I think it will pull the curtain back on the things that good coaches know and see.
