WildCard Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Am I crazy? Didn't that signing happen days ago? It's been rumored for about a week now
Randall Flagg Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 It's been rumored for about a week nowWith specific numbers? That must be what I saw
WildCard Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 With specific numbers? That must be what I saw Yup. Probably one of our better twitter posters on here; that extension has been known for awhile I believe
JJFIVEOH Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Ekblad is a better defenseman than Myers ever was, or ever will be. Smart deal.
That Aud Smell Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Florida is shaping up quite nicely. Again: Who was our regular around here who would crow about the Panthers a few years ago, when they were still finishing among the bottom 10?
LGR4GM Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Florida is shaping up quite nicely. Again: Who was our regular around here who would crow about the Panthers a few years ago, when they were still finishing among the bottom 10? JJ loves the Panthers. Think he lives near them.
That Aud Smell Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 JJ loves the Panthers. Think he lives near them. I think that's right. @JJ, yeah? I remember he used to get razzed a bit for saying "watch out for them Panthers" and then they'd sorta be not good.
LGR4GM Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Aaron WardVerified account@NHL_AaronWard Detroit Red Wings and Darren Helm agree to terms on a 5 year/ $3.85M AAV #DRW
That Aud Smell Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Aaron WardVerified account@NHL_AaronWard Detroit Red Wings and Darren Helm agree to terms on a 5 year/ $3.85M AAV #DRW I don't know enough to know why Travis Jost and others are PANNING this deal.
darksabre Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 I think a lot of people in Detroit were hoping for a little mini-rebuild. So Helm sticking around is grinding their gears. They see that money as being better spent on other positions of need.
That Aud Smell Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 I am also inferring that the #fancystats do not favour Helm.
darksabre Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 I am also inferring that the #fancystats do not favour Helm. Correct. Fancystats Twitter doesn't like it.
That Aud Smell Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Correct. Fancystats Twitter doesn't like it. That is an element of the #fancystats world that gives me pause. Yost seems to have good insights, but he treats his analytic numbers as gospel. It is not clear to me what his evaluation of the player is beyond those stats. And, I mean, he is just yucking it up over the Helm deal.
TrueBlueGED Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Helm has really fallen off the past few years. The eye confirms what the stats reveal.

And, I mean, he is just yucking it up over the Helm deal. I like the stats. I mean, I went to a damn hockey stats conference. But I think the stats are lacking in a lot of areas because the people who develop these methods have never really played the game. I continue to bang the drum for stats that look at game flow. So much of hockey is sequences of events. I don't think fancy stats currently measures this, and I think coaches and GMs are able to identify players who contribute positively to the game but maybe not in a way that the stats can "see".

Line networks and event proximity visualizations come pretty close to what you're looking for, IMO. Also, the data project from Jen Lut Costella is a treasure trove for this type of information. The stuff is out there, but it's not exactly easy to tweet about.
sabills Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) You know, I think it was a good idea for Montreal to get rid of PK. He was problematic, a little to much of a me guy, could have been a problem in the locker- Travis Yost@travisyost Alexander Radulov has signed with Montreal. Oh. Edited July 1, 2016 by sabills

She's really made a lot of progress. I think she has the same end result in mind that I do. I love thinking about this when I think about how useless Kane can be sometimes: https://jenlc13.wordpress.com/2016/04/12/crucial-habits-shot-generation-game-flow/

apuszczalowski Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 Hows that such a bad deal for the Panthers? He's 20 and is going to get better. I can't see that being a bad deal for them
