LGR4GM Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Remember when Phil Kessel was a player you couldn't win with? Yea, about that...maybe his team just sucked. You know who's a player you can't win playoff series with? Marc-Andre Fluery. So Crosby's about to go to his 3rd Cup. Which Western team has the best chance of beating Pittsburgh? I'll say St.Louis Pretty sure they have to play in the conference finals first. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Hmmm. A quick search for "Fan hit by puck" tells a different story. The NHL says it doesn't keep statistics, but the medical director of the MCI arena in Washington, D.C., has conducted a five-year study about the safety of spectators at hockey games. Dr. Dave Milzman, who is also a professor at Georgetown University's Medical School, says pucks hit three to four people at an average game, one of whom needs stitches or more serious medical treatment. That article is undated, but in it the author notes that Brittanie Cecil died on Monday. That awful incident occurred almost 15 years ago. So I don't think it's relevant to what we're talking about here -- that guy was apparently gathering data before the safety nets were installed and was looking at things like injuries from point shots. Anyway. I can't accept at face value that a desire to protect spectators was a reason for instituting the rule against clearing the puck over the glass in the d-zone. But maybe I am forgetting how players used to clear the puck over the glass before there was a rule against it -- i.e., maybe they did so forcefully. Nowadays, any penalty that occurs always comes from a flip that went too far, too strong (i.e., no real force at all). Quote

Fair enough, but I also can't accept at face value that trying to create more offense (only) was the reason for the rule. They already have rules on the books for that, and we all know how well enforce those. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 You know who's a player you can't win playoff series with? Marc-Andre Fluery. Pretty sure they have to play in the conference finals first. Fleury is 53-44 in his playoff career with an ECF appearance, a Stanley Cup loss, and a Stanley Cup win. I hope Eichel sucks that much in the playoffs for us. There was a stretch where he had several bad series, but that ended 3-4 years ago. He's been a very good goalie since, and has seemed like the only Penguin playing well in their disappointing losses over the past few years. Quote
LTS Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 If the NHL wanted to keep pucks out of the stands they would have put the netting all the way around. A penalty doesn't protect the fans. It's still a penalty if you flip it into the netting area. They don't want players putting the puck over the glass on purpose. Why are we even having this conversation? Because one player tipped a mid-air puck and it went out of play? Guess he should have used his hand. Had he hit someone in the face with his stick it would have been a penalty even if he didn't mean it. Let's see if the Pens have an answer for Brian Boyle. Quote

No. We're having this conversation because three players tipped the puck mid-air and it went out of play. Plus, it's kinda what we do here. Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Kuznetsov with 1g 13a in his last 32 games. Impressive. Quote
WildCard Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) Pretty sure they have to play in the conference finals first. You really think TB has a shot outside of 'crazier things have happened'? Fleury is 53-44 in his playoff career with an ECF appearance, a Stanley Cup loss, and a Stanley Cup win. His record is probably indicative of his team more than anything else. Plus, take away that one year he had that he was great, and he's been terrible. Kuznetsov with 1g 13a in his last 32 games. Impressive. That's what killed the Caps. Thorny pointed out the depth earlier, and it was really Kuznetsov that did nothing. Edited May 11, 2016 by WildCard Quote

The last time I watched a series and thought that Fleury's play was bad was 2012, but the "choker" label has stuck with him ever since. His defense has been downright pathetic most of the time, and I remember him being the best player in their loss to the Rangers last season. I just think they've had so many more problems than MAF over the years Though he will be on his way out soon with a possible expansion draft and the emergence of Murray Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted May 11, 2016 Author Report Posted May 11, 2016 So..... Does Dallas have a chance tonight? Quote
Thorner Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Regarding the puck out out of play rule: I still want video of the post-game interview with Miller where he is crying, defending Campbell, decrying the rule. As for the notion that the league instituted the rule to keep pucks out of the stands: Strikes me that intentional flips over the glass aren't really hurting anyone. Nah? As for Thorny's call for an abolition or roll back to subjective intent: Please, Lord. No. /MichaelScottNoGif I've since backed down from my position after taking into account the views of others here. I still don't like the rule, but it's hard to find a good alternative. It may be the case of "lesser of a few evils" You really think TB has a shot outside of 'crazier things have happened'? His record is probably indicative of his team more than anything else. Plus, take away that one year he had that he was great, and he's been terrible. That's what killed the Caps. Thorny pointed out the depth earlier, and it was really Kuznetsov that did nothing. I remember Fleury being really good during both of their cup finals runs, and as others have pointed out, some of the more recent series lately. But make no mistake, he was definitely the bane of their playoff existence for a time there in between. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted May 12, 2016 Author Report Posted May 12, 2016 Game over.... Man that's some bad goaltending Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted May 12, 2016 Author Report Posted May 12, 2016 Wow, all 3 goals were terrible, 1st was no rebound control, 2nd was no gap control on post and 3rd was really just bad Even the disallowed goal was junk.... Complete choke Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 12, 2016 Report Posted May 12, 2016 Goaltending catastrophe. Poor Lindy. But, at least the Stars know what they need in the off-season. Quote

Iron Crotch Posted May 12, 2016 Report Posted May 12, 2016 I bitch about Pekka Rinne in Nashville because he lets in a softie every game. But, at least he doesn't let in 3 or 4 softies like the Dallas goaltenders! Quote
bunomatic Posted May 12, 2016 Report Posted May 12, 2016 Embarrassing for the Dallas stars. Looks like it'll get worse. 5-cod and no signs there's any fight left in them. Quote
