Wow, Pit cannot pull it together.

Watch this rule get changed in the offseason.  (It wasn't in 2006.)  Actually, I think it's a good rule.

Hate the rule, too arbitrary. Could decide a series

It DID decide a series.  2006.  Buffalo at Carolina.

It's still a good rule.  Back when it was up to the ref to decide the defender's intent, it was miserable.

Just don't see the rule being a worthy tipping point for games and series

Agree. They took all the guess work out of the call, regardless of intent. The puck either goes over the glass cleanly or it doesn't. I don't see how it's still arbitrary at all.

GO SABRES!!!

That's a whole different discussion. All calls could be tipping points in series, depending.

Well, when it wasn't automatic it determined a series back in '01. That sucked more than '06's automatic call IMHO.

It shouldn't be a penalty, period.

Not sure how old you are or how long you've been watching hockey, but there's a damned good reason why it's an automatic penalty.

Used to be that defenders just threw the puck over the glass.  So they made it a penalty if it was intentional.

That put discretion in the hands of the ref.  (Just one ref, at the time.)  As we all know, that's a disaster.

So they made it automatic.

Good move, even if it cost the Sabs a Cup 10 years ago.

Intentionally putting the puck out of play shouldn't be a penalty? You sure about that?

Could you imagine? Teams wouldn't have to bother icing the puck from their own zone. Just flip it over the glass, get a line change, good to go.

If it's between that, and it being automatic, yes I'd rather it not be a penalty.
