Modo you are an odd bird. That's why youo fit in here so well. The relegation is harsh. People will lose their job. Hopefully it is the start of a rebuild that will come back better than ever like the Sabres process over the last few years.

Cheers my man!   Cheers!

I think the NHL should relegate the Leafs to the AHL.

Tanking would not be an option if relegation was in place.

Sorry about your team MODO. That franchise has produced some talent over the years.

Can they get back to the SHL next year by winning the Allsvenskan?

Seems like relegation is a European thing, even the IIHF World Championships follow that process.

Modo ...

Sorry for the relegation. You put the consequences into such meaningful context. It's more than a disappointment and a broken heart. The camaraderie of sports and the economics of sports, together. Ornskoldsvik and Buffalo are 6,000 km from one another, but you've made the cities, and people, neighbors.

I'm glad you're here. We'll cheer the rise of MODO and The Sabres for years to come!

Thanks for all the kind words guys, much appreciated.

Life has its ways for all of us i guess, its ups and downs, and so aswell for hockeyorganisations.
I am so glad that i have Buffalo Sabres to put my faith in, without hockey my life would feel kind of empty, because what this community brings is just not hockey, but friendship, overall discussions, a place to chill and discuss this fine sport together with other things.

Now when the fire has worn out around MODO Hockey it self, things start to come together, many people around this club has raised their hands brining more heart to this than in years, alot of new memberships, many local companys are holding hands in this matter trying to bring in more economic muscles into the organisation.

MODO Hockey has created an new sportcouncil containing of Anders Hedberg, won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy back in -85, Niklas Sundstrom that played together with Wayne Gretzky in rangers, won gold with MODO Hockey 2007 and has an career as scout now, and Ulf Odmark that has 12 seasons back in the early days with MODO Hockey and that has been working as an manager for a long time.

The bord of directors has all been released of their dutys together with other big changes.

So alot of stuff is happening, for MODO Hockey and this small northern Swedish town of Ornskoldsvik, i just hope its enough to bring us back into SHL, for the future to tell. It is just very sad over all the jobs that went to wastebin because of this historical event that took place just recently when this club lost their SHL contract.

Anyway,

It's gonna be great fun and im humble and excited for this summer and next upcomming season for Sabres.

This sort of stuff is fascinating to me.

Who was it (or what was it) that released the Directors from their duties? How is MODO owned?

No, its very difficult.

MODO Hockey has to win, end up 2nd or come 3-7 out of 14 teams. And the outcome is different.

If they win, they get to play a game of 5 vs the team that end up 2nd in HA (Hockey Allsvenskan).

Winner there will go to playoff over 7 games vs the SHL team that end up last in SHL (14th), by playing best of 7 games vs that SHL team.

If you lose this game of 5, you still have a small shot at SHL by going to a series vs the team that

wins the playoff series, that series is played by team 3 to 7.

If MODO Hockey end up 3rd to 7th when the season is done, they first have to win this playoff series above, then they need to win another series of 5 games vs

the loser in the series of 5 games between 1st and 2nd, win that, and then play a series of 7 games vs the team that came 13th in SHL and win that.

So you see, the outcome is complex and very rough. Does this make sence enough for you to understand how this works?

Cheers!

Well, it is an formality basicly, that the board releases them self since they obviously have failed badly, there is mostly no other outcome for this, it happends

not just in sports. The shame is obvious, if they would still stay, the town, sponsors etc would have their say in this and they would have to leave anyway. Noone accepts this kind of failiure, its like an unwritten rule, that you just leave your seat to someone obvious more compitent, ofc you can ask the reason why these ppl where voted in to the bord in the first place, and that happends to in the media etc, but history is history, and it is what it is.

MODO Hockey owns it self basicly by beeing an non-profit organisation, like a company with no shareholders. Its kind of complex, where MODO Hockey it self owns another company that organises and maintains the arena together with personell etc.

Does this make sence to you ?

I think so:

1st in HA (AHL-equiv) \

                       - best of 5  --------->                     \

2nd in HA             /                        \                                                                 ----   best of 7   -------> plays in SHL next year

                                                                       \                     14th in SHL (NHL equiv)    /

                                                                        \ loser \

                                                                                     ---- best of 7  --------------->   \

playoffs for HA 3rd - 7th place                                    /                                                ----------- best of 7  -------> plays in SHL next year

                                                                                                13th in SHL                 /

In short, the last two SHL teams have a playoff against two HA teams as determined by some playoff series'. That's a pretty cool system, really. How often do teams change leagues? Is this a "every couple years" or "every couple decades"?

Well, it was different system just a couple of years ago and way back. But the outcome is the same. 2 SHL teams vs 2 HA teams.

Sometimes both SHL teams  win their series and stay in SHL, sometimes 1 SHL team and 1 HA team, last year 2 HA teams won and 2 SHL teams failed.

The system though gets spinning after every season is done in SHL/HA.

Another question: is there a more traditional HA playoff of any sort? Is there a "winner" of the HA, and how is that determined?

No, its like any series determined of points made after 58 games played.

Allthough there is an playoff from division 1 to HA, basicly the same as HA to SHL.

Yes, there is a winner of HA, it is determined as above, points made when season is done.
