That Aud Smell Posted May 7, 2016 Report Posted May 7, 2016 So, um, Auston Matthews is pretty good. Two absolute snipes today. Yes, against Belarus. Even so. NBC Sports, for those asking. Quote
millbank Posted May 7, 2016 Report Posted May 7, 2016 Auston Matthews kicked it up a notch for the United States in a 6-3 win over Belarus in their second preliminary match at the World Hockey Championship. Coming off a stellar performance in an opening loss to Canada, Matthews was even better in his second game with two goals and an assist in the victory. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted May 8, 2016 Report Posted May 8, 2016 Laine leads the tournament with 6 points in 2 games, while only getting 13-14 minutes per game. The Barkov-Laine line is getting skipped over every couple of shifts, Finnish fans are speculating that they're either nursing minor injuries or being rested for tomorrow's game. Quote
Brawndo Posted May 8, 2016 Author Report Posted May 8, 2016 Laine's performance has to be giving Toronto some slight pause over who to pick first overall. But when in doubt I would go with the center. Quote

LGR4GM Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Doesn't Matthews square off against Laine today? Quote
Randall Flagg Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Doesn't Matthews square off against Laine today?Yeah, not sure what time it started though. Quote
LGR4GM Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Yeah, not sure what time it started though. I just saw a highlight of Matthews stealing the puck from Laine and the USA going down to score. Think it started at 1pm or 2pm. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 I just caught Barkov being a beast. Bold prediction: Barkov will be the best player taken in the 2013 draft when all is said and done. Quote

Randall Flagg Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 Really sticking your head out there for the second overall pick, aren't you?A lot of people said that was a reach and had him safely behind Drouin and Jones, let alone MacKinnon. Quote

I just read the first 5 pages, very interesting. I remember in my youth when I thought CoHo would be a top line center... then my balls dropped. We have come a long way from CoHo and Grigorenko to ROR, Eichel, and Samson. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted May 9, 2016 Report Posted May 9, 2016 I see your Barkov and I raise you Sean Monahan. Offensively, maybe. But I don't think Monahan can sniff Barkov's defensive game. Quote

Randall Flagg Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 I'd take Barkov, MacKinnon, and Risto before Monahan from that draft, but that's it. Quote
Derrico Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 this one? http://forums.sabrespace.com/topic/21694-2013-nhl-entry-draft-buffalo-sabres-select/ Thanks for posting this. What a great read. To me it shows that outside of the first few picks who knows how these guys are going to turn out. Posters were freaking out and threatening to light themselves on fire after Buffalo took Risto with the 8th pick. Lindholm, Nichushkin and even Nurse were much more popular choices then Risto yet I would take Risto over all three of them three years later. I've got my favorite guys in this years draft but some guys pan out and some guys don't and only time will tell. Overreaction is what makes it fun but sure looks ridiculous three years from now. Another thing I learned is Mackinnon was being viewed as the next Crosby (similar to McDavid/Eichel, now Mathews). Seems the top guy is almost always looked at as the next 'generational' type player.
