He's a really good skater, especially backwards. He stood out a couple of times last night.

I saw he just take off once on the rush. Seems to have serious wheels, but is--rightfully--held in check. He needs to learn to play along the boards way better, but so did Larrson earlier this year and he is great now.

So he signed a one year deal. Is he just free to go after that is up or is there an option year or anything? Anyone know?

Hockey doesn't have option years, ever. After his one year deal he will be a RFA if I understand the CBA correctly. Also he must have signed a 2 year deal otherwise he would be up for a new contract almost immediately.

Hmm well actually looking up his contract on Fanager he is a RFA July 1st sooooo that's something.

He'll be RFA next year.

ALL ELC's are 1, 2, or 3 years in length depending on the player's age.

Apparently, he's old enough to have gotten the 1 year (& due to point in season, essentially 7 game) deal. Gives him some serious (for what's essentially still a student) spending money for the summer. Good for him.

Of the recent contracts, Cornel's must have been a 3-year ELC, correct? What was Fasching's, does anyone know?

Worth listening to the whole thing.

Talks about Kane and how he had a slow start, but was overall happy with him and thought he was one of the hardest working guys on the team for 2/3 of the year. Mentions his tardiness and how they had a long chat about it. Mentioned he needs to be a better team mate and often turns up 5 minutes before practice and laces up and goes out - no warm up or stretches - and he needs to appreciate others can't do that. Apparently some guys on the team were apprehensive about him before the season due to reputation. Interestingly it sounds like no one has issues with his on ice behaviour but he can be cold and closed off when not on the ice and he needs to work on that. Sounds like he doesn't really trust people or let the in.

Wants Lehner to be fitter but understands he couldn't work out much due to injury. Handled being a starting goalie well. Needs to work harder in every practice - but said thats a problem with all young goalies and usually takes a few years. Goalies don't need to be the best player, but the hardest working player. You don't need days off just because you're playing lots

You serious with that? That's absurd. My HS coach wouldn't put up with that

Both are 3 year according to NHL Numbers. Per that, this is Fasching's 1st year and '16-'17 is Cornel's 1st.

Not positive that is correct about Cornel not kicking in this year. It would definitely change if he gets a callup these last 4. [Edit: As Emily used to say: nevermind. ;)]

Eric Cornel is coming out of junior hockey not the NCAA therefore his contract would slide unless he plays the 9 games, which he physically can't do.

Thanks. For some reason thought he was coming out of NCAA.

I honestly double checked because I thought he might be but then I realized I was thinking of Connor Hurley.

Not with that attitude.
