Thorner Posted March 26, 2016 Report Posted March 26, 2016 According to friedman they will be excempt. Thanks. Maybe it bases it on which year of your contract you just completed. Quote
Taro T Posted March 31, 2016 Report Posted March 31, 2016 Assuming NTCs don't have to be protected (which is currently unclear), Moulson+Gorges+Bogosian puts us at $14 million. The spare parts that get exposed will cover the rest. If that 25% rule is accurate, and if TM knew, or at least suspected, something like that would be included do we now elevate him to SUPRA-genius status for the Moulson contract? Especially if he agreed to trade say a Bailey or Baptiste or Carrier (whomever he's least enamored w/) & a high pick or 2 for an expansion team to take Moulson and spare the rest of the Sabres. It wouldn't be the 1st time a team kept the guys it really wanted by getting somebody to take someone it didn't want. Quote
Huckleberry Posted April 29, 2016 Report Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/expansion-draft-rules-agreed-upon-by-nhl--nhlpa-153933538.html If this article is right, the NHLPA came to an agreement where NMC are force protected but NTC are not. So only NMC's will be force protected. Like, for example, New York Rangers defenseman and salary albatross Dan Girardi, who goes from NMC to NTC in 2017. The thought is that he would NOT be exposed, as the expansion draft would take place before July 1, 2017. So this would leave Moulson with a modified NTC wide open to be taken for example. But Bogosian with NMC is force protected. Edited April 29, 2016 by Huckleberry Quote
dudacek Posted April 29, 2016 Report Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) The stuff I was reading today made me think NMC players were not force protected, but exempt. Need to do more research. And didn't we establish Bogo's NMC disappeared when he came to Buffalo? Edited April 30, 2016 by dudacek Quote

GoPre Posted April 30, 2016 Report Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) Chicago has 7 NMC's on their team. Ouch for the Blackhawks. They won't have to protect Panarin though. He'll only have 2 years of service in the NHL. So an expansion team can't go after him. Edited April 30, 2016 by GoPre Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted April 30, 2016 Report Posted April 30, 2016 This could throw a wrench into the world of loopholes of contract signings between now and expansion draft. Long term implications? Quote
