I don't see why some don't think he is worth a 3rd rounder. He's brought more than most 3rd rounders do.

Because he's a 7/8. Most 3rd rounders don't end up that good, but of the guys that DO get to the NHL, THOSE are usually better than that. A 3rd round pick, though the expected value is AHLer, the ceiling is much higher than that; and that ceiling is what usually makes that pick worth more than the 7/8.

And 7/8's are always available in the off season. You usually have to give up more than just a 7/8 to get a 3rd. (Which is why the Sabres retained salary & don't get the pick this year. They DID have to give up more for the pick.)

And off topic - good luck to him. He always came across as one of the good guys.

I know it's part of the team building process and then even if you want to have a player next year there's good sense in trading him for assets now, but every time a long time Sabre gets traded, a little piece of my heart goes with him.  Good luck, Webby, may you hoist the Cup in a few months.

It's also worth noting that while a 3rd-rounder by itself doesn't give you much of a chance at a good-to-very-good NHL player, a bunch of 3rd-rounders gives you a decent shot at it.  So accumulating those picks -- when the alternative is getting zero for pending UFAs -- is an entirely logical move.

Never heard of her or seen her in movies.

Yup. Gostisbehere was a 3rd rounder. Sure, there's about 300 Justin Keas for each Gostisbehere, but still, every lottery ticket helps.

Then that team would be better off throwing a first rounder at us.

Well it seems like with all the speculation ramping it seems like this could be it's own silly season where GM's lose their minds earlier than July 1st. The longer there are quality players such as McGinn available, and with a bigger pool that GMTM can include, there may well be a crazy storm coming.

Mike Weber bled for this team every minute of every miserable year, when others in the room didn't give a ###### and when the paying customer blamed him for being thrust into a role he wasn't capable of by management that never gave him the support he deserved.

He is the definition of a good soldier.

Good on Tim Murray for sending him to the best possible destination.

If anyone from the post Black Sunday Sabres deserves to drink from Lord Stanley's chalice, it is Mike.

My playoff team this year is now set.

This.

And the Viagra chick, or what ever her name is, needs to find someone that can dial back the bushes above her eyes.

Meh.  She's pretty but.... I dunno, not my type.

I would call her voluptuous, which, of course, can be appealing, but her look doesn't do anything for me, either.

Yep, full agreement there.  I prefer "girl next door" to "voluptuous."

Too much Jennifer, not enough Bailey. Bailey is definitely the way to go. ;)

Wow, I can't believe the pushback on dear Sofia. I'm not being critical, either, people have different tastes...I just honestly and truly didn't expect it.

Perhaps we're looking at this the wrong way

To me she's kind of an obscure pick.  I'd never heard of her.

You're not the first PhD I know (well, you know) who likes the voluptuousness.

Aren't all buyers at the deadline contenders?

Sofia Vergara is a goddess, even in her 40s.

Yes, but some contenders are more pretenders. Weber is going to a team that gives him a great chance to have his name on the cup. As Joe Yerdon and Harrington pointed out this sits well with the other players on the team.

As I said I'm in a small minority on Sofia.

We have had some epic debates about tastes in terms of the opposite gender. Most recently Jan from Toyota vs ATT Girl
