Hoss Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Lots of chatter on Twitter about how the new lottery system dampened trade activity. Is true? I don't know why it would. Not many of the players available had a first-round value. Quote
Mustache of God Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 I don't know why it would. Not many of the players available had a first-round value. Bubble teams are a LOT less likely to deal a 1st round pick as the repercussions of sending away a pick that ends up netting another team a 1-3 pick would cost a GM his job, especially when that trade was meant to make the playoffs and instead they missed the post-season and the sweet, sweet lottery ball. I agree. But the post you responded to doesn't contradict this thought. Quote

Not many of the players available had a first-round value. Someone mentioned that on WGR too. The idea is all but the top-10 teams in the league are gun-shy about trading a first in case they miss the playoffs and win the lotto. It makes sense; you can say there weren't players with first-round value available but if GMs start calling up with 1st round picks to sell guys suddenly become available. Quote
Hoss Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Maybe the current lottery just prevented teams from putting guys on the market. They knew they wouldn't get firsts for their guys so they kept them. Quote
Brawndo Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 8s9 seconds ago Believe winger Jamie McGinn was traded to Anaheim just under the wire Quote
Randall Flagg Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 McGinn to Anaheim, per Lebrun? Quote
Iron Crotch Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Hey did you guys hear "McGinn to Annaheim?" Quote
papazoid Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 My prediction. McGinn will be traded and the board will explode because we got ripped off. no details yet.....but i dont like it.....laffin Quote

That Aud Smell Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 GM TM seems to have a penchant for trading with organizations with which he is familiar. Normal? Or nah? Quote
Trettioåtta Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Urgh. Today sucked. Nearly took a day off work. Thank goodness I didn't Quote
Brawndo Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Conditional 3rd could become a 2nd Quote

Thank goodness I didn't I don't understand why deadline day is a holiday to some people, especially Sabres fans or people interested in teams without any chance of making the playoffs. Quote
The Dominator Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Conditional third that could become a second. Eh, if GMTM couldn't work out an extension with him for a price that made sense to him, might was well take this deal. Sounds like a win-win Quote

Iron Crotch Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Joe Yerdon @JoeYerdon 1m1 minute ago Sabres have 3 third-round picks in the 2016 Draft and two third-round picks in 2017. They have one 2nd in '16 and two 2nds in '17. Quote
Rasmus_ Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 I'm good with trading McGinn, he's not worth 4M, for that sake he's not worth what Beleskey signed for. He's a 3-3.5M cap hit tops. Quote
Trettioåtta Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 I don't understand why deadline day is a holiday to some people, especially Sabres fans or people interested in teams without any chance of making the playoffs. I'm a hockey fan. i enjoy the moves other teams make. Also it is a day, historically, where things happen - e.g. Kassian for Hodgson. So being out the playoffs is not a guarantee nothing happens. Finally, for every buyer there must be a seller, even when bad it is fun to see what pieces your team get for the future Quote
pastajoe Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 At least it gives us a reason to root for a team in the playoffs, like Miller in St Louis. Quote
