TrueBlueGED Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 Good man. So there is hope. Sorta. We all know we still start the year at 0-2. Of course, I also know I'm going to talk myself into predicting we beat the Pats in one of those games, only for reality to come crashing down onto me by halftime. I really believe we'd have made the playoffs at least a few times during the last 15 years if we were in a different division. Were there valid football reasons to hire him? I suspect there were. I guess? I dunno. I'd need to be reminded. His defensive track record was legit. He made consecutive AFC title games with Mark Sanchez as his QB. The wheels didn't come off in NY until they came off the QBs and his GM decided it was a good idea to let starting corners (a hugely important element to his defensive scheme) walk out the door. That team, between free agency and age, was bleeding talent for years. That's not to say you couldn't find any fault with Rex (his game management, for instance, was a known disgrace). But it's not like a couple of bumbling owners let themselves get sweet talked by a buffoon. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 And now I've talked myself into them starting 2-0. I may be insane. Quote

inkman Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 His defensive track record was legit Idk. He had some pretty marquee players throughout his coaching career. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed,Terrell Suggs, Shaun Ellis, Kris Jenkins, Calvin Pace, Mohammed Wilkerson, Darrel Revis. Me thinks they might have had a lot to do with his success. *raises hand* Predicted strength of schedule and actual strength of schedule have, at best, a minimal correlation. My lord is this truth. Yet every year posters come out of the wood work predicting wins and losses. Quote

Bill "genius" Belichick has fielded some pretty awful defenses in his time with the Patriots. What the hell else are we going to do in the offseason? Argue about quarterbacks! Quote

Didn't Buffalo already acquire that pick in a three-way trade involving the Broncos?! Quote
ddaryl Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 my faith in Rex went completely south after what he regressed our defense last year Quote
That Aud Smell Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 Sticking with my disappointment with Watkins not being there for voluntary workouts: His Twitter feed indicates that he traveled for some R&R (Vegas, likely) instead of to Buffalo this week. The Instagram content to which his Twitter linked has since been deleted, but there are replies to the Tweets talking about the Instagram content, asking whether he's enjoying the casinos. Wide receivers, man. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 Also: At least Rex was asked about it: “I know we had a great turnout for [the] voluntary deal; we weren’t 100-percent for attendance, but a couple of guys gave me phone calls, all that stuff,” Ryan said, via Mike Rodak of ESPN. “I won’t get into specifics on who was here and who wasn’t here because it is voluntary, but I’m encouraged by the turnout we have and everybody’s I think excited to get this season going.” “I said I wasn’t going to talk about anybody being here or not being here,” Ryan said when asked specifically about Watkins. Key word here is voluntary Honestly? Fug that. Especially not after his diva hissy fit of last season. I really wanted to see the guy grow up, become *the man*. I don't think that's going to happen now. Not even close. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 He was also running a youth football camp Sunday. Wide receivers, man ;) Yeah, yeah. Whatever. I'm not saying he's a bad guy, or incapable of charitable actions. Maybe it's seeing the Sabres come together as a team the way they did. Git your arse to voluntary workouts, Sammy. Play some X Box with Tyrod. Quote
Eleven Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 Antics. Seriously, though, about the only football-related drill allowed at the OTAs is having QBs and eligible receivers play catch; it would have been helpful to have him there. Quote

I'm not sure they are. Antics. Seriously, though, about the only football-related drill allowed at the OTAs is having QBs and eligible receivers play catch; it would have been helpful to have him there. Meh. I feel Sammy and Tyrod don't need practice playing catch against a non-existent defense in April. They'll get more than enough of that during training camp. Heyooooo. Quote
WildCard Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 Are football and hockey locker room dynamics the same? I'm not sure they are. The turnover is much larger in football, the roster much larger, the season (including OTA's and all that) is shorter, the careers shorter (less time spent together), and, if all that wasn't enough, they don't play nearly as many games, so they don't have long road trips to bond together. Very, very different dynamics I'd say Quote
That Aud Smell Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 Are football and hockey locker room dynamics the same? I'm not sure they are. Probably not. But, take for example, Aaron Williams has been hanging with Flash Goodwin this week, having a great time watching Game of Thrones. They have been Tweeting about it and everything. They have been TEAM-BUILDING, TrueBlue. I also wonder whether my total loss of faith in Rex is colouring my view of SamAbsent Watkins. Quote
