rakish Posted October 10, 2016 Report Posted October 10, 2016 I posted the wrong guy, didn't I? Tough love, my apologies Quote
3putt Posted October 10, 2016 Report Posted October 10, 2016 (edited) My recollection is foggy and unable to research it right now, but Risto would be on the not reported list as of the Tuesday deadline as of now. If he signs sy Wednesday do the Sabres get any roster relief like they do in football, i.e. the ability to carry more players? Edited October 10, 2016 by 3putt Quote
Doohicksie Posted October 10, 2016 Report Posted October 10, 2016 (edited) So we could be missing ROR and Okposo to start the season? Relax, that's why you have depth. Reinhart can slot into ROR spot if needed. Okposo is fine, he'll start the season. Everyone calm down. And a bubble boy or two can start the season with the big club and get their 9 (or less) games of NHL experience. Edited October 10, 2016 by Doohickie Quote

If he hasn't signed by Thursday they could put him on suspension which would give them relief. I would expect that would be the plan so they can call up someone to play defense in his stead. I remember Teppo was suspended for failing a medical test once with blood clots, wasn't anything against him just the formality of it all. Quote
dudacek Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I think because he's not signed, he's not on the roster. Doesn't affect us any more than David Legwand as far as cap and roster limits go. Quote

You can't suspend someone who isn't your employee. But yes, they do get cap relief if he's not on the team. His entire $0 salary no longer counts against the cap. Quote

Hoss Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I believe he does indeed count against the roster limit as they retain his rights. Quote
Eleven Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I believe he does indeed count against the roster limit as they retain his rights. He's not on the roster, so he can't count against the 23. He's also not under contract, so I don't think he can count against the 50, either. Quote
Hoss Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I think we're going to need to do some actual research instead of assuming. Different leagues have different rules obviously, but the NBA counts unsigned restricted free agents both against the roster limit and cap (using the qualifying offer). I've never thought about it or looked into it in the NHL. Have any local journalists posted or tweeted about it? Quote
dudacek Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 We are allowed 23 on the NHL roster. He's not on it. We are are allowed 50 contracts. He's not one of them. He is unsigned property, similar, I guess to Cliff Pu. Quote
Brawndo Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Derek Grant is practicing as the center on the Sabres' second power play. I'd say that's a solid sign he's (deservedly) earned a roster spot From Vogl Quote
qwksndmonster Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I was hoping for Murray to pick up a #4 C this summer. I'm glad that Grant emerged and I'm curious to finally get a look at him. Quote

Brawndo Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Kulikov good to go Thursday, ROR not so sure Quote
LGR4GM Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 If Grant gives us 20pts on the 4th line this year. Happy Liger Quote
WildCard Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Kulikov good to go Thursday, ROR not so sureThat's upsetting. Would break up Reinhart and Jack for sure Quote
Brawndo Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Bylsma: We’ll go the distance with keeping Guhle around (can’t send him down, he’d go to Jr). He’s shown he can play in an NHL game. ROR day to day Dan Bylsma uncertain of Okposo, O'Reilly in opener. Says IF they are put on IR for roster deadline, can be retroactive and play Thursday. Quote

Interesting. In the few games I saw him play, I didn't really see any compelling reason to keep him here this season. Was pretty meh to my eye. Quote
nfreeman Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 What does "go the distance" with Guhle mean? 9 games, or indefinite? Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 What does "go the distance" with Guhle mean? 9 games, or indefinite? I interpreted it as the full 9 game trial and then make a decision. Quote

Hoss Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 That's upsetting. Would break up Reinhart and Jack for sure This doesn't sound like it's the case. Eichel-Larsson-Girgensons-Grant practiced up the middle at practice. With Okposo and O'Reilly looking out for at least the first game we're likely looking at: Kane - Eichel - Reinhart Foligno - Larsson - Ennis Moulson - Girgensons - Fasching/Nylander Deslauriers - Grant - Gionta Quote
