They are kinda meeting my expectations, not gonna lie.  Eichel is starting to be the rookie I thought he would be. Reinhart is a bit better than I thought he would be. ROR is amazing. Ristolainen until very recently has been above expectations. I figured they would finish outside the playoffs in the 18-22 range. Their advance stats say that's roughly where they are playing.  I look forward to a 2nd half that involves more wins.  Focusing on the positives this season.

the idea that the improvement we've seen this year, relative to last year, is something to cling to. I will not compare this year's team to last year's team. It's not the same team! Not even close! We're not comparing the 95-96 Sabres and the 96-97 Sabres.

The comparison needs to between what was reasonably expected of this year's team and what we're getting.

I also think this is fair. The attraction to comparing this year to last year is two-fold, I think: (1) You have two sets of comparable and quantifiable data and (2) there is so much improvement to see.

But the more salient comparison is a more slippery proposition because of what's bolded above. People's expectations will vary, both by amount and type. And what is reasonable is up for debate.

I thought about that too the other game, Hoss. Then I remembered the hours spent watching his highlights/games wearing #15, and I'm glad he went back to it. That letter sure looks nice on him though

Don't really know where to put this... But I wish Eichel would've stuck with 41. It really grew on me quick.

Chicago looked pretty good against Pittsburgh the other day. 72-15-88 is a ridiculous line. Sabres haven't won in January since January 30th, 2014. 0-14-0 in our last 14 games played in the month of January.

But we're better statistically... so we got that going... which is nice.

But not correct. This is creeping into Sabre Talk, the idea that the improvement we've seen this year, relative to last year, is something to cling to. No, for the Love of God, no. See above.

It's simply stating that even though we aren't good this year, we are a lot better than last year. Speaking nothing of where we should be or what is an acceptable result, the numbers simply speak to the fact we are a better team than last year. I get what you are saying, that the improvement in relation to that team doesn't mean anything. But whether or not I agree with that, the numbers still illustrate how woefully bad we were last year. It's just an interesting stat.

Every sport I played I always tried to get the jersey # 41, that being said I still like # 15 on Eichel.

So nobody is watching his then??

I think he has direct tv

I kinda hate every number over 30. The big double digits numbers are ok but all these 82, 47, 57, 63, 72, 68. Just go away.

I think EIchel looks much better in 15 than 41. Numbers in the forties just seem weird to me.

I'm happy you left off 91 or there might be a serious issue.

I think we are going to miss Nic Deslauriers this game. He seemed to cause problems for the Hawks the last time we met.

Definitely. Deslauriers is very important to the personality of this team.
