Stoner Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 Maybe I've missed the press release, but when did Craig Patrick go? He's out of this year's media guide. I am too lazy to find last year's guide to see if he was in it. Remember he was brought in when Murray was hired to be a senior advisor. What did he do, anyway? Meanwhile, despite the feeling Ken Sawyer also went away, he's in the guide as a senior advisor and alternate governor, under finance/legal/administration. It's odd that his bio doesn't reference one accomplishment in his six seasons with the Sabres. Maybe he never had any say in hockey matters. Is it safe to say Tim Murray is the titular head of the Buffalo Sabres hockey department? (This entire post was an excuse to use the word titular. Enjoy.) Quote
WildCard Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 I did not realize Patrick had left Quote
Stoner Posted December 20, 2015 Author Report Posted December 20, 2015 I did not realize Patrick had left A lot of people won't realize he was ever here. He must have done something! I don't why the team has to be so secretive sometimes. Remember how long it took for them to admit they had x number of scouts? Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 I remember hearing about this quite some time ago. My guess is he was brought in to help a rookie front office transition from being secondary pieces to being in charge. Murray has the requisite experience now, so his position was no longer needed. Thanks. Not sure why that blurb says Patrick was brought in with LaFontaine. Quote
Huckleberry Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 think I read about him not coming back half a year ago, was even mentioned somewhere on SS. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 Thanks. Not sure why that blurb says Patrick was brought in with LaFontaine. My memory could be failing me, but I thought he was brought in with LaFontaine? Quote
Weave Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 My memory could be failing me, but I thought he was brought in with LaFontaine? Mine may be failing too, but I thought he was brought in before LaFontaine. I thought he was part of the original group that came in. Quote
dudacek Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 He did come in with Lafontaine. They were introduced at the same press conference. I read that his contract was not being renewed, I think that was around the draft. Lafontaine brought in Patrick to be his sounding board. It's pretty realistic to assume Murray is in charge now and decided he didn't need or want him in that role. As far as Ken Sawyer goes, I guess he has influence with Pegula, but I've always thought of him as a business guy. I don't usually pay attention to those types unless they are getting in the way of the hockey department. Quote
Stoner Posted December 20, 2015 Author Report Posted December 20, 2015 Patrick was introduced at the Murray presser. It's on the Internet. It must be true. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 I'm not sure he was ever here. Did anyone ever see him? Quote
Stoner Posted December 20, 2015 Author Report Posted December 20, 2015 I'm not sure he was ever here. Did anyone ever see him? He was the best damn special advisor we ever had! Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 He was the best damn special advisor we ever had! What the heck does special advisor mean and better yet what the heck do they do? I still say he was never really here. Quote
woods-racer Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 Their all middle management types. Kind of like lineman in the NFL, never notice them till they royally screw up. Quote
SDS Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 Unless he was special advisor to the fans, why would anyone have any expectations to know anything about anything he did? Quote
That Aud Smell Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 I'm not sure he was ever here. Did anyone ever see him? He showed up at one of Ted Black's cocktail hour focus groups for STH's. I attended that one. Quote
Stoner Posted December 21, 2015 Author Report Posted December 21, 2015 Unless he was special advisor to the fans, why would anyone have any expectations to know anything about anything he did? I'm getting hung up on the word expectations. Expectations vs. interest? It's not the Manhattan Project. I expected the Sabres to give at least a hint as to what Craig Patrick was doing. Then again if there aren't media/interview requests, why should they? Not listing a single thing Ken Sawyer has done in six seasons with the Sabres is just weird. Quote
LTS Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 There are people who do things that have no relevancy to the on ice product or at least no direct relevancy. There are also favors paid to others in hiring or throwing some "consulting" hours someone's way. It happens. None of it impacts the Sabres salary cap and if Pegula wants to throw money places then I'm fine with it. It's his money. Quote
