Hoss Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Challenge rule is absolute trash... Hardly want to watch games after that call. Also, drag your skate Gionta. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Oh ###### me. Sabres: :w00t: :death: Kings: :death: FTFY :p Quote
LGR4GM Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Bad new rule, but the right call. Sad. (Gionta needs to stay with his linemates.) No it isn't. He was not across the blueline when the puck got sent in. Why the blueline doesn't extend into the air is anybodies guess but they got this call completely wrong. They are destroying hockey and the NHL and NHLPA can off. Quote
Ottosmagic13 Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) His skate was clearly a foot (literally) behind the line, why the hell did they agree that it needs to be on the ice, lets add layers of ###### to the ###### that is the coaches challenge. Thorner Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 This challenge is killing us. What this is also bringing to light is just how often the linesmen are missing offsides. There must be thousands any thousands of goals that, according to this stupid new challenge system, should not have counted. There seems to be a real problem here. You can only challenge once a game. If the NHL cares about getting the calls "right', how the hell will it be fair when a team goes offside and it goes uncorrected because the challenge has been used up? Quote
DarthEbriate Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Moulson's a step slower than Gionta. He'd have been onside there. Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 I hate being 20 minutes behind, I can't keep up with the thread. :( Quote
WildCard Posted December 13, 2015 Author Report Posted December 13, 2015 I swear this freaking challenge cheap almost has me ready to kiss this league goodbye. Whether for us or against us I think it sucks. It's about as useful as Ann Frank's drum kit Quote
Randall Flagg Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Hey, they got the call right. I want the calls to be right.See you guys in a month, I'm going to go find video of every point scored by the top 100 or so scorers in NHL history, and count how many actually should count. I'll have the updated list hopefully published before I graduate. Quote

But hasn't it always (at least in my memory) been that the skates need to be on the ice? In football, and the goal line that extends to infinity (or used to, they change their rules every year so it's hard to tell) it's onside. Quote
Mustache of God Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 That goal was such a beauty too. Stupid, stupid, stupid rule. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 I hate having a good game (rarity) being overrun in a GDT cause of a bs challenge, and this won't change all year and who knows if it will next either. For those who said they don't mind the challenge If it is directly off the rush, are you still in agreement with that? Quote

Radar Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Professional sports has gone down the drain with all this carp. Between challenges and timeouts after almost every play in football it's driving me to not even watch games. Quote
Doohicksie Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 It's about as useful as Ann Frank's drum kit Too soon. Quote
biodork Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 I hate being 20 minutes behind, I can't keep up with the thread. :( That's why I rarely participate in GDTs anymore... the time difference here means I'm rarely able to watch live. :( Quote
SarasotaSabre Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 according to the current replay rules they got the call right w/ Gio being offsides. But the way this replay rule has been written & implemented is hurting the game. That was a sick pass and great finish, and the offside did not give Buffalo a material advantage on the play. If the NHL wants to keep worrying about decreasing goals per game and fan discontent as a major sport, the NHL needs to revisit and sh*tcan this replay crap in its current format. Quote

Thorner Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Which is arbitrary and ###### joke. It's how arbitrary it all is that makes it so infuriating. Gionta had nothing to do with that play and another highlight goal is wiped from history. It's hard to even celebrate goals now. Just seems like a matter of time until you hear Rob Ray, "weeeeellll, it looks like the refs are gathering together here....." Quote
darksabre Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Overturning that goal is a crime against the sport. Quote
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Hey guys.....it should still be on your dvr. Gionta didn't blow it, Eichel did. Kane and Gionta were ahead of Eichel and waited on him. Eichel was going north, then 2 feet from the bluelinr decides to cut left and go to his backhand. Eichel cost us the goal. Quote
Weave Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 Skate on the ice is the rule. It was the right call, period. Blame the challenge, not the rule. These players have been playing with that rule since youth hockey. challenge rule sucks. Quote
Thorner Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 I believe as long as you have a timeout, you can challenge. Oh ok, thanks. Thought you could only challenge once, Still hate the challenge system. Quote

Just seems like a matter of time until you hear Rob Ray, "weeeeellll, it looks like the refs are gathering together here....." But is the skates-on-ice-offsides thing arbitrary, or is that part of the rule book? Hindsight alert: I remember hating that Jerry Rice clearly fumbled, leading to an SF touchdown drive and the end of a Packers season. (that was Young to Owens.) The NFL apparently agreed and finally went to instant replay. 15 years later, instant replay in the NFL annoys me, too. And less than a season into these expanded replay rules in the NHL and I'm even more annoyed. Quote
