Stoner Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Maybe I'm noticing something that's not unusual. Maybe I'm seeing things (after thinking I saw the Wing arm the puck into the net on that second goal). But I'm pretty sure Eichel often gets called to the bench for a line change (or goes on his own, but usually it seems like he reacts like someone has shouted or whistled from the bench) even when his linemates are forechecking (and sometimes even on a shoot-in while his wingers keep going). I thought I noticed that Eichel's shifts were cut short in that scrimmage in July. There was a story after the game that he was gassed from his busy schedule, so I figured that was it. Now I'm thinking maybe not. I don't notice this kind of change with the other lines. What's up here? Have at it, hockey intelligentsia. Quote

I too have noticed Eichel taking shorter shifts than his linemates. I had always attributed this to him being a rookie and not wanting to get caught out too long and therefore playing it safe by leaving a bit early. sort of a "i'm a team player" type demonstration. Claude_Verret Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 According to this site Eichel averages 48.1 seconds per shift, 5th on the team behind Ennis, Kane, O'Reilly and Gionta. 108th ranked in the NHL. http://www.sportingcharts.com/nhl/stats/average-ice-time-per-shift/2015/ Quote
WildCard Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Good lookup, Claude. I think pa is right though, because very rarely do you see Eichel being the last forward on his line responsible for the forcheck while the other two change. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 I notice it as well, from time to time. It does seem to be part of a S.O.P. It might also be situationally based. Quote
Claude_Verret Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 And look at #1 Karlsson at 60.9 s/shift, a full five seconds ahead of #2. Kid is a beast. Quote
