Fine. I'll rip on him for the dozen other times last night where he didn't make anyone on the ice with him better and kept losin possession because he was playing by himself.

(He's now a lock for a ten game scoring streak)

Rip on Eichel, too!

Rip on Eichel, too!

It's been a concern of mine as well. Most his magic only involved him. It wasn't until the Vancouver game that he actually brought his line mates into his circle.

Maybe DB is hoping for chemistry to develop?    While I want to see Eichel on fire, I agree with DB experimenting with the lines early in the season to get a feel for who will work together and not;   He also has to give the lines time to mesh and sync for said chemistry to occur.    I wouldn't want him to change lines too often, because then Chemistry is lost.

In other words, give it a little more time. If after a few more games the Eichel/Ennis line is still a dud,  then I'll be wondering myself why DB would keep them paired.

I'm starting to wonder whether the other guys perceive Eichel as bit of a puck hog — too much so for a rookie in a heirarchical locker room culture?

There is a long list of guys he has yet to establish chemistry with. He and Ennis may as well have been on opposite teams last night.

It's offside, but like icing, there should be some discretion. Taking away all discretion from linesman is bad for the game.

From what I saw, Ennis is getting obstructed without the puck at the blue line. Defender sticks out leg. Instead of keeping a skate down and potentially getting jackknifed, he jumps. 9 out 10 times, a linesman lets it go. This changes the game IMO.

I think the linesman did let it go.

Unfortunately, whomever Dallas has looking at replays, didn't let it go and notified the bench to have it reviewed. C'est la vie.

GO SABRES!!!

If Eichel is still doing this after 6 years in the league I most assuredly will.

If that's true, Gionta's not doing his job. Nor are the other vet leaders.

I still think tweaks need to be made on this team to get the most out of everybody, id love to see eichel with o'reilly. But eichel on the top line may not be the best idea.

However Gionta and Moulton are not suitable for wingers on that line.

What exactly does Larsson do, honestly I don't notice much outta him at all.

And yes Ennis is getting knocked around, giving the puck away, over stick handling until it leads to a rush the other way, and he's not backchecking well also. So as a "vet" I expect better

On the positive side, Dallas may have the best attack in the league.

We did a fine job of slowing them down.

The number of odd-man rushes we've given up this year is very small.

Which is a big change from Bylsma's Pittsburgh days. Those teams were a mess defensively his last few seasons.

Also, Ennis was maybe 2 inches offsides, maybe.  I don't think it is necessary to throw the tomatoes at him.  In real time on TV, he looked onside to me.  They had to slow it down to see it.

It was pretty obviously offside to me.

Sir, you have nailed each point to a t. I'll mention one.

Larsson appears to be incapable mentally of being involved unless he's on a top line. He had a few nice games and now is back to looking like he belongs in the A where the would help the team. Don't see that happening though unless he is sulking and it impacts him so much that his ineffectiveness continues for an extended period of time.

At the time, to me watching, it was not.  I might be in the minority then.

If you go back to my post from that moment:

YEAH!

EDIT: Uh oh....

it has a timestamp of :29 but was edited at :30 because as soon as I posted that I thought back to the entry and wondered if it was offside before the challenge was even mentioned.

I didn't know what they were reviewing at the time. In fact, I think the Rayzer/RJ team were thinking that the Stars were calling a timeout to attempt to slow our momentum.

Did you see how after that call, a large majority of the fans at FNC just left? They knew it was over cause the Sabres momentum was killed.

Listened to Jeremy White this morning on GR and thought he nailed (similar to what D4rk has been saying).  Challenging the offsides from zone entry is like waiting until a 3-2 pitch is hit out of the park, and going back and challenging a 2-2 pitch in baseball to argue that the batter should've been out before he slapped a HR.  Where does it end? They also made a good point, that if we had taken a different shot, turned it over, and then Dallas has a breakaway and scores, we are not allowed to challenge that we were offsides on the other end.  So everything else that happens from that linesman's missed call is allowed to stand (i.e. a dirty hit, a penalty, a breakaway in the other direction, etc), but that goal is the only thing not allowed to stand.

What's the point of the challenge again? because two or three teams got hosed on a breakaway/odd man rush last year?  Make it so it is only reviewable on the odd-man rushes or breakaways then!  once a team has established possession in the other zone, that offsides is a moot point.

Good points.  All sports have a human element that we're trying to take away with challenges and video replays.  I'm fine with it in certain critical situations (does a ball go over the fence in baseball, does the puck go over the goal line in hockey) but it is getting to the point where we're trying to review away the human element that has always existed in sports.

I didn't either, because I saw no reason to review in real time.

You have to have contact outside the line, otherwise you are offsides. Yes this sucks but the offsides wasn't even close there. Pretty obvious on replay. Maybe the Sabres need to make more effort there? That solves the other problem, doesn't it?

You don't necessarily need to have contact outside the line. Some part of your skate just needs to be at least touching the blue line, until the puck fully crosses.
