Which of these shows that have been mentioned (perhaps ones that haven't) would be a good series to catch up on over the winter? I'm looking for something to pass the time for when OITNB and Game of Thrones starts. I watch House of Cards which starts in February, but I need something else to fill the time. Preferably on Netflix, HBO GO or Showtime; whatever I can get using Roku.

We had a brief discussion in here about the best Bond theme.  Well, after seeing Spectre this weekend, I have a clear answer for what the worst Bond theme was.

And I hope I didn't need a spoiler tag for that one.

I'm not sure if anyone else watches it, but I mentioned it in my first post in the thread - "Supernatural".  It's a bit reminiscent of the X-files, with demon/monster hunting and an overarching story.  It's in its 10th season and is one of my favorite shows on tv.

Seasons available: 1-9

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Mischa Collins

In terms of television programming, the last few years have been quite good for genre fans. There's The Walking Dead, of course, and the more dementedAmerican Horror Story. But there's one show that's been delighting lovers of monsters, witches, and other antagonistic grotesqueries since way back in 2005: The CW's Supernatural.

Slightly below the radar, Supernatural has been the most consistent genre show on TV, powered by the pitch-perfect chemistry between leads Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, as demon-slaying brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. It's also wonderfully creative, with a never-ending surplus of inhuman villains often rendered by impressive visual effects and padded with rich, fascinating mythologies.

We know what you're thinking—a show on The CW starring a couple of pretty boy pin-up types can't be anything more than something your little sister would watch. Give Supernatural a chance and you'll discover that it's one of TV's best-kept secrets.

Finally saw The Martian this weekend, hilarious and great. Captures the book pretty well, though with much less swearing.

Discovered a show on Netflix this week. Master Of None. Pretty good stuff.

I liked it too. The style reminds me of Louie, but its less dark and harsh. Similar dramedy sort of tone to it, though. Aziz is hilarious.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

An old but amazing series is Band of Brothers. That's one I could and have watched literally a dozen times. I can't wait to watch the Pacific Theater one

I forgot all about that, didn't realize it was only 10 episodes. I'm a big fan of movies/shows about past wars. Thanks for reminding me.

It's a little different, but also very good. I haven't watched it since the first time though, I'll have to see if I still have it or it got garage-saled.

Yeah, that song was bad. Does it unseat Jack White and Alicia Keys, though?

Daniel Craig's Bond has had two of the best songs in You Know My Name and Skyfall. He definitely owns the two worst.

The tone of that one at least fits.  I don't have the slightest clue what they were going for with this slow depressing one in Spectre.  I would have thought I walked into some sappy romance movie or something.

Yeah, awful song.

Except that Ambrose the bed when giving the 101st Airborne credit for taking Berchtesgaden, home of Hitler's retreat, and Spielberg perpetuated it. This outraged tons of WWII vets.

It's funny you bring that up because my buddy at work is a big history buff and he was saying the same thing to me Saturday at work

The Pacific is ok. I own both that and Band of Brothers. I watch Band of Brothers every year over about a 2 day period. I've seen The Pacific once.

Well worth it.

Amazon instant video has it for free if you have an Amazon Prime membership. Check it out, you'll like it.

Will have to do that now. Definitely going to help me kill my down time in the winter.

So I watched Spectre tonight with my Dad. Good movie, but not as good as Skyfall. It was just....lacking in surprise where Skyfall excelled. The revealing of Spectre was really poor, and they didn't really seem all that sinister to me. That said, the action was good, Bond was Bond, and funny too, and that blonde French girl has my heart. Plus, Dave Bautista is an awesome Bond villain; he has one fight seen that was just brutally good

I saw Spectre last night and I thought it was terrible.

They managed to make Christoph Walz boring. That is criminal.

The whole movie had very little contrast, nothing popped.

Every character acted like a robot. Nobody had passion for what they were doing. The only time anybody felt like a person was when Bond recognized the exact version of Rolls Royce that was driving toward him from an absurd distance. Bond is a car dork!

The plot was so lazy and boring. It did the usual globe-trotting where Bond's mission takes him all over the world. We went to the UK, Austria, Morocco, Mexico, Japan, and probably some other places as well.

I normally love this kind of thing, but the movie did such a horrible job connecting these locations. I never felt any significance or gravitas, and very few of the shots were given time to breathe.

The secret society angle was brushed aside after the 10 minute scene of people sitting at a neat looking table. Apparently if you get the leader, they just fall apart completely.

Christoff Walz was apparently the architect of every sour experience in Bond's life. He never had any plans other than "terrorist stuff" or worrying about James Bond. There were no stakes because they tried to make all the stakes personal, but these people don't act like people and they barely know one another.

Bond gets tortured and his brain is messed up (?), but then this gets swept away too.

At the end of the movie Walz is doing the Joker-esque KILL ME FINISH IT thing and James decides not to and shows him his empty gun "no bullets." This was treated like a big character moment, but it had nothing to do with anything. I guess Bond was supposed to be resisting Walz getting into his head and not letting his anger control him? Walz never really did much to him in the movie but talk to him (exposit to the audience) about all the stuff he did in the past to kill Bond's ladies. Then he tortures him with some weird machine. Wow.

The pacing was bad, everything felt like it took forever. The movie was 150 MINUTES LONG. It felt like an episode of Archer (22 minute show) where nobody has fun and nothing funny happens.

I DID like the shot where Bond is strolling calmly on the edge of a rooftop to an assassination. I also like when he's drunk and points his gun at a mouse and asks it who its working for.

Oh and nothing was sexy. The scene in the beginning whith the lady from the matrix was really weird half kissing along with mumbled exposition that I caught none of.

The intro had all that weird tentacle porn stuff... super strange.

And the "main romance" was so boring by the book James Bond stuff. I'll protect you. I don't want to sleep with you. But actually I LOVE YOU!!

The worst part is that they tried to afford this some sort of deeper meaning. Like the characters really had some sort of connection.

I agree with WC that the fight scene on the train was awesome. Brutal.

Couldn't have summed it up better myself, qwk; very well done. It lacked exactly that, 'pop'. Everything you said was spot on besides two thing

A) The looks the French girl gives Bond before going to sleep was definitely sexy

B) Archer is awesome
