inkman Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 "Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished," the character alliteratively explains of his decision to wear the mask. "However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition." darksabre Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 I'll be honest, I don't understand the current fascination with Guy Fawkes. The dude was essentially a radical religious terrorist, whose death is celebrated as a victory for the British Crown. They burn him in effigy. His mask is meant to be a joke.Somehow it's been transformed into a symbol of anarchism. Quote

This is the type of sarcastic, petty, childish that none of us deserve. If you or anyone else decides this is the relationship you want to have with the volunteers here then please move on. Life is too short to have to endure the snide remarks of a man-child. Again, I appreciate the community members here that don't insist that the world owes them an existence where everything operates according to their own personal preferences. Thank you for making this place a wonderful place to visit. I sincerely owe all of you many thanks and beers. If we ever meet up I assure you the tab is on me. My request is for the conversation to continue regarding the Sabres and other topics of interest, as I am not interested in these exchanges anymore. Quote

Like most on here I do not take it very seriously. Quite honestly I could care less if a thread is locked or not. I find this forum a diversion from a long day at work, screaming kids, or frustrating hockey. I understand your position as well as the mods for having to keep this somewhat under control. The last thing you need to do is let this place get to stiff. Feel free to suspend me, ban me or whatever you feel is necessary. The truth is for the last 6 months you've been one of the most sarcastic and snide posters on here. You have an ever growing tendency to act like you are above your posters. There now you have a reason to give me s***. Edited November 5, 2015 by sicknfla Quote

First off, I completely took this as sarcasm, and laughed. But as I have been told, using a different color for sarcasm really helps. Especially for those on portable devices. Quote

pastajoe Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 I know V for Vendetta. Is a movie supposed to supplant history? When i was in 3rd grade The Babe Ruth Story with William Bendix was shown at my elementary school. It didn't mention anything about his drinking and adultery. I grew up thinking he was an inspiration and a great symbol of achievement. Was that wrong? Or was the message the important thing to remember? Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 (edited) Even if it wasn't sarcasm, would it really have been that bad of a post? Damn, an awful lot of tension around here lately. What's next, is the OP going to get reprimanded for not putting "OT" in the title? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interesting: https://twitter.com/HistoryInPics/status/662336153580920832 Edited November 5, 2015 by JJFIVEOH Quote

woods-racer Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Guy Fawkes is basically Osama Bin Laden. It's been a long time, but I remember him being a very bad person. My memory was a combination of Benedict Arnold and Osama Bin Laden. Watched the V for Vendetta movie and found it entertaining, never thought someone would find it historical. Quote

I think most people enjoy the anti-government, anti-establishment vibe of the movie. I have no problem with that either. I like the film a lot actually. I just get a chuckle out of how much the symbolism of Guy Fawkes has changed in such a short time. I didn't know Guy Fawkes enjoyed porn. Edited November 5, 2015 by d4rksabre Quote

That Aud Smell Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Guy Fawkes is basically Osama Bin Laden. Hmm. So does that make our last three or four POTUS's King James I? Because James was a bad, bad guy. Fawkes as a symbol (a brand) has been co-opted and distorted to suit some people's needs, but I don't think his place in history is so easily distilled. Quote

I'm accounting for the context of how his death is celebrated mostly. Quote
