Hoss Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 So the news has been rumored for a few days now and was finally announced: Key Bank just bought First Niagara. This almost assuredly means they'll rename all branches Key Bank... So are we about to be buying tickets to Key Bank Arena? https://www.key.com/about/articles/keybank-first-niagara-agreement-103015.jsp?ppc=Q4_prFN_tw Quote
That Aud Smell Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Welp. One thing to bear in mind: It took M&T three years or more and 100s of millions of dollars to close its deal to acquire that downstate/NJ bank (Hudson something). Regulation is a big hurdle. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Ugh, Key Bank is the worst. And not that it's a big deal or anything, but I liked the First NIagara colors matching the team. Quote
darksabre Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 I wish we could just call it The Knox and be done with it. Quote
Doohicksie Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Dang. I liked calling it the F-n C. Quote
WildCard Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Dang. I liked calling it the F-n C. Same here Key Bank is a terrible name, let alone it doesn't come with any good nick-names off the top of my head Quote
Eleven Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 It's been rumored for more than a few days; I've been hearing about it since summer. I don't really care what the arena is called, but this is very bad news for Buffalo. Oh well, I suppose we were due for a setback. Quote
Stoner Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 When do the naming rights end? I like d4rk's idea, to name it after the Knoxes at that point a la Ralph Wilson Stadium. Then it would be Fort Knox. I'm sure Terry's bean counters would love that idea. /pangloss Quote

Patty16 Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Key Bank Arena already exists in Seattle http://www.keyarena.com/ Would think Key Center or Key Bank Center if changed. Quote
sabills Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 I'm just enjoying that it'll be named after its 5th name, and 4th bank name, in less than 20 years. PS, Key Bank blows, and FN not being headquartered here is a blow for Buffalo, and especially the Larkin District. Quote
Kruppstahl Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Remember when sports arenas weren't whored out for naming rights in the interest of making a nickel? The Forum, the Spectrum, the Aud, Maple Leaf Gardens, Boston Garden, Madison Square Garden, Chicago Stadium.... Good times. Quote
thewookie1 Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Dang. I liked calling it the F-n C. I guess seeing as we finally have a couple F'n Cs the name can change Quote
North Buffalo Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 Key Bank could use "Fort Knox" to its advantage... the Key to Banking your blue and gold... there are ways to work it PR wise Quote
Brawndo Posted October 30, 2015 Report Posted October 30, 2015 With the Bills having a relationship with M&T in large part to Russ Brandon one would have to believe the Pegulas could go all in and have them as Sabres Primary Sponsor as well. Quote

This was one of my thoughts, too. M&T Arena? M&T Center? M&T Knox Arena/Center/Place? M&T SDS Center? Edited October 30, 2015 by Hoss Quote

Would be very ironic as M&T pulling out of providing the financing for building that rink could have scuttled it. Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted October 31, 2015 Report Posted October 31, 2015 Both M&T and Wells Fargo are Buffalo banks. M&T was started to try and get manufacturing going in Buffalo in late 1850's and Fargo was the Mayor of Buffalo during the Civil War Quote

Shipments were in a blue box, which is still the AmEx logo today. Quote
Rasmus_ Posted October 31, 2015 Report Posted October 31, 2015 Sundowner's Place. Definitely a scintillating choice! Just north of the border. Quote
