SwampD Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Don't know about this, not a fan of franson, he looked to slow a skater to me. Feeling a little prickly, I don't know how this is acceptable Oh never mind then How is he wrong in the first place, though? He said "he looked to slow a skater…" Well, he did look to slow a skater, but he was to slow to slow that skater. Thus Hucklberry;s trepidation. Quote
WildCard Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 I'm Tired of posters hammering the English language. Your phone tells you what is right most of the time. Hey Tired, I'm WildCard ;) Quote
thewookie1 Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 I will say Franson had great stats the year Toronto went to the playoffs. 3g 3a in 7 games including 2 in the Game 7 Quote
PotentPowerPlay22 Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 He's a real NHL defenceman that costs nothing but money. We got money. Get 'er done. He is definitely worth a shot. I like obtaining assets for money alone. Money is far less risky than trading away draft picks and prospects. He can always be traded down the road if necessary. I hope he signs with the Sabres. Rasmus_ Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 I'm good with this. He'd be an upgrade in a few need areas. Though he's another right-handed shot. We'll have to live with that. He's 28 and not 34-36. Quote
LaLaLaFontaine Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 I like him, who can we trade to Detroit in exchange for a lef-thanded D? Quote
LabattBlue Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 (edited) He has played 400 games at the nhl level. You don't get that far without being a decent skater. He may not be a great skater, but some make it seem like he can't even stand up on skates. He is an experienced blueliner(they need help), who can score on the PP, and the Sabres aren't committing a lot of years to him. Where are the negatives in this signing? DirtDart Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 5th in power play scoring for defensemen since 2010.God knows we have needed scoring in that area. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 ^ None, as far as I can tell. Who's playing left D? Quote

Huckleberry Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 (edited) ^ None, as far as I can tell. Who's playing left D? Risto or Pysyk probably moving to the left side. Pysyk - Bogo Gorges - Risto Carlo - Franson weber that would be my guess. Edited August 28, 2015 by Huckleberry Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 I think Dan B has talked about moving Risto to the left, I really hope it doesn't sxrew up his development. We need him to be a #1 D. Pysyk does have experience on the left though, so that can work. Quote
Thwomp! Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Hope this happens. We need a veteran defenseman or two. The more competition and depth the better. He's also the best available d-man left on the market, relatively young, the contract looks like it will be short term, and we have plenty of cap space. Quote
Doohicksie Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 *3.0 Somebody forgot about Regehr :P Franson's never been fast, but I guess I'm just not convinced he's a corpse at 28 years old. I never saw Regehr was ever 2.0. Quote
Huckleberry Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Slava Voynov anyone? My brain would say yes, but my hart says no :p Quote
LGR4GM Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Slava Voynov anyone? only if ever single Sabre with a significant other gets to punch him as hard as the would like where they would like. Franson for a couple years isn't a bad option. We will have the capspace and we need a veteran. Quote

nfreeman Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 Getting Franson on a 2-year deal would be a pretty good move for GMTM. I don't think anyone should kid themselves about what the Sabres would be getting -- i.e. he is far from the rock-solid top-4 guy the Sabres need -- but he's still an NHL defenseman who would contribute on the PP, and the Sabres need another defenseman if they're going to shoot for the playoffs this year. Not having to commit more than 2 years to him would be great. Quote

IKnowPhysics Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 I think we're all on the same page about this. Best available defender that adds veterancy, buys some time for the kids, contributes on the powerplay, may help a playoff look, don't want more than a couple years, and we have the cap space. Chz, make the call to GMTM. Quote
Derrico Posted August 28, 2015 Report Posted August 28, 2015 The Preds have a good Dcore but it concerns me he was a healthy scratch some during the playoffs last year. Still an upgrade over who our third pairing would be and we won't run into cap problems on a two year deal so I wouldn't mind it. If anything he will help the PP. Quote
