Ruger makes a .308 with left or right bolt. M77 mark I I gunsight scout. The place that I just bought my escort m87 from had one in stock. Unbelievable gun. Expect to pay $900 for one. Escort makes a left handed 20ga semi. Reasonable price. Remington has the 870 express left handed. It's the same exact gun as the escort m87 I just bought so I can say first hand it's a nice gun.

When I told my wife I had been to the "store" she said "you looked at that gun didn't you?" with a look on her face. I said" Baby, look at it like its a pair of shoes." She smirked.

I bought it the next day. I love my wife.

I look forward to getting a chance to get into guns more. I had a friend who had money to burn and would take me shooting with him. Stuff like an AK-47, Mosin, M21. I couldn't tell you the specifics anymore- d4rk probably could, he came with us once. I'm not a great shot but I'm not a bad one either. I really enjoyed it and would like to learn more someday. I also would like to learn how to work with handguns. And get back into archery. Nice to have an understanding of everything out there. I plan to lurk this thread and soak up info.

Need some info from my fellow gun wackjobs. Been a long time since I been shooting or bought a gun. Being the superior portion of the human race (lefty) I am thinking of getting a little left handed 22. Looking for some opinions on makes and models. Also I seen u pthread about ammo shortages. Whats that about? Last time I was target shooting 22 ammo was dirt cheap.

Not much made specifically for lefties.  In bolt action, Savage makes a lefty .22 and CZ makes one as well.  CZ 452 is a really high quality firearm.  I want one of these badly. On my list to get one day.  Savage makes a nice .bolt action 22 as well.  My son has one.  It's a shooter.  You probably won't get to handle a lefty bolt gun before buying though.  Very hard to come by.  You'll have to order one. Noone seems to stock them.  Look over a right handed model and make your choice I guess.  As far as I know, no other maker produces a lefty bolt gun.

 

If you don't want a bolt gun, autoloaders and lever guns are pretty easily used by lefties.  Marlin, Winchester, Henry all make real nice lever guns.  I have a preference for Marlin personally, but all of them are good quality.  Plenty of good autoloaders out there too.  Ruger 10/22 of course.  Marlin autos are plain, and pretty basic but last forever if well cared for.  The only difference of significance is you'll work the safety backwards, but that's easy enough to get used to.

Which side the bolt is on or where the shell discharges are concerns for lefties yes. But the weight, grip points, finger placement as compared to the stock and trigger pull won't change. If it feels great when shooting a righty it will also as a lefty but easier to load/pump and discharge shell/actuate the bolt action.

 

My brother was a lefty. I watched him shoot everything. The worst for him was shooting a righty semi shot gun.

For what it's worth in the movie Saving Private Ryan, the American Sniper was a lefty with a righty bolt action.

Closer by my experience but still not dirt cheap like 6-7 years ago. I posted some prices before but if you can handle 7-11 cents a round you can find tons of ammo on the interwebs.

.22lr is still a good bit less expensive.

I remember the first time my lady and I went to the pistol range. She put her first shot dead center from 15 feet with a Beretta 92. She almost had a heart attack feeling the gun kick in her hands. Then she followed up by putting her next 5 shots in the center ring. She's a natural. I wanted to tape the target to the front door. She wouldn't allow it.

Caught a nice Northern Pike early this morning.  Maybe 30".  Wasn't much of a hit.  My line just stopped.  I set the hook and applied pressure.  Didn't budge.  Thought maybe I'd snagged, but then the line started moving through the water.  Here we go!.  Peeled off line on me twice before tiring.

The PPX is nice. It's a pleasure to shoot. I've seriously considered buying it a few times. The trigger is very light however and there are zero safeties on the weapon, I mean none! Not even the safe action trigger that glock has. Caught a nice Northern Pike early this morning.  Maybe 30".  Wasn't much of a hit.  My line just stopped.  I set the hook and applied pressure.  Didn't budge.  Thought maybe I'd snagged, but then the line started moving through the water.  Here we go!.  Peeled off line on me twice before tiring.

Nice job Weave! Can I ask what you were using for tackle? Up in the 1000 Islands, Buzz Baits are very popular for them.

 

On a related note, yesterday morning I caught a 3 pound Small mouth on a drop shot with a night crawler. Love the fight they put up!

Size 2 silver Blue Fox spinner retrieved just fast enough to spin the blade.  Was trying to get the spinner as close to bottom as I could.

I have a good amount of experience, but this will be my first pistol (have a shotgun, couple of rifles).  When I lived with a good friend of mine, we went to the range all the time.  He's a collector and his older brother is in law enforcement, so it was like a gun show every time they were together.  I was able to try a lot of different things, and learned a lot being around them.

 

The lack of safeties on the PPX is the one thing that has kept me from buying one up to now.  My wife has zero experience, and my older stepsons enjoy going to the range, but are learning with handguns (both are great with rifes).  

 

Any recommendation for a good, easy-to-use 9 mm for beginners?

Frickin' nice fish. I caught one large Northern in my life - when I was young. And my experience was quite like that. My older brother was all "Geez, IDIOT, snagged again?!" (I now know from you that snagging is much a part of fishing.)

My brother is a cop who owns only glocks, therefore I own a glock. But I really recommend the Springfield XD series. It's a great pistol, and for everything that comes with it, the price is very difficult to beat. There are so many different models of XD that you'd almost be sure to find one to your liking. They have a safe action trigger as well as a grip safety. Check one out, see if you like the feel.

 

Also, you can't go wrong with a Sig Sauer or an H&K. But they are much more expensive.

Absolutely do this. If it doesn't feel good when you shoot it, you will never enjoy shooting it. Lots of people don't like glock. It's a very square gun and doesn't fit a lot of hands.

Got out for about an hour and a half today. Took the 4lb line (what was left of it) off of my spinning reel and spooled it with 6lb. Elected to tie my jigs to the line without swivels and used a lighter jig with the twister bait. This seemed to work very well as far as casting and retrieving was concerned. I could feel the jig working its way along the bottom and reeling in slow while being mindful of any pulls kept me from getting snagged too many times. Nothing biting but at least I got to work on my setup and technique.

The retriever I have now is at 585 and I lost his first year of retrieves.....about 44. All water retrieves, none on land are counted, not even the grouse.

Like I say, anyone from the site comes out, 20% off. World-class walleye fishing and grouse hunting while waterfowl season is on too.

Trying something a little different for trout/salmon season.  Bought a pack of one of the newer "super lines".  Supposedly almost no stretch, much stronger for a given diameter, much more flexible, and unlike mono it floats.  Downside is it handles very differently and can be prone to wind knots if not retrieved with a tight line.  Seems like everyone online is raving about the stuff so I bought a package.  Its expensive line if I don't like it.

 

Also, picked up a sling pack on clearance for my gear. If I'm going to spend alot of Fall/Winter hiking down into the lower river gorge to fish for steelhead I'll not want my hands filled with gear I am carrying.  I got it all set up this morning.  OMG where have these things been all my life?  What a convenient way to pack and carry your gear.  Room for 3 good sized tackle trays, zip pockets for other gear, sunglasses pocket, hooks and loops to attach a net and pliers, and straps to attach my rod and reel.  Hands free carrying of everything I need.
