I hate the DECALs site BTW.

Does anyone know if once you print your fishing license, if you lose it, or it gets destroyed, is there a way to print another one? I have looked everywhere one that site and can't find where to do it.

Not sure. But omce youve gone through DECAL any license issuing agent should be able to pull up your account to see that youve already purchased the license. In theory you should be able to get it reissued at Walmart for example.

I had to do this earlier this year in IL.  Walmart will print it for you.

Anyone ever fish the Adirondacks? Heading up there soon and camping on Raquette lake. I know it can be some tough fishing and what looks like just perfect largemouth areas doesn't have any (they are probably there but just really picky eaters and I didn't have/know what they wanted last time).

Thinking of just drifting the rocky shoreline with crayfish looking for smallies.

Crayfish or imitations always are a great search bait.  I have some decent success this year with the basspro coffee and salt tubes.  The fish seem to hold them a split second longer.

Cool. It's more of a superstitious thing with me. I know that with my printed receipt  I would be fine. I even have a goofy printed version that takes up the whole page, but I like to have one done right.

I just think it's weird that you can't just go to the site, call up your account, and reprint one.

I mean, c'mon. Any DEC guy that would come check you out has to have SCMODS by now, right?

In theory, that too.  Where they get you is, by law you have to have your license with you while you are participating in the activity. So yes a DEC officer should be able to verify your status electronically, but he can issue you a summons for not having the license on your person.  At this point it seems like it is that way because it always was that way.

I have a lifetime license.  It is issued as a credit card type thing.  But, every year I am also issued the typical set of tags that make up your license.  I don't carry my "tag" while I am fishing.  I assume that the lifetime license "credit card" is proof enough.  I suppose I should look into whether that is sufficient or not.

Went to Point Breeze on Lake Ontario to see if the fish would cooperate.  I was 1. trying out some hardware in advance of the coming Fall trout/salmon run and 2. prospecting to see if any of those trout/salmon have started working their way inshore.

No trout to speak of that I could get interested, but I did catch one smallmouth bass that must have tail walked 5 times before he tired enough to bring in.  Caught him on a size 1 silver Blue Fox spinner that I found in some old gear that had a bent shaft.  I replaced the shaft and figured I'd try it out to see if it was properly balanced.  Worked well.  Well enough for that bronzeback anyway.

I had a family group of black ducks feed their way within 6-8 feet of me.  I stopped fishing for 20 minutes or so to just sit quietly and watch them preen and nap.  Momma duck drove off a couple drakes while I was watching, but she didn't seem too concerned by my presence.  After a bit I resumed fishing and they moved off to a quieter rock.  Nature is always entertaining to me.  If you look closely, the duckling on the near right is noticeably younger than the others.  Mom has obviously accepted an orphan.  I think this is uncommon.  Mother ducks often drive off ducklings from other broods.  Competition.

Any one have any experience with Escort shotguns? I've been looking around for a 12ga pump deal. The store that I bought the Plinkster from has an Escort 12ga M87 for $270. Walnut stock with three chokes. Threaded for Remington parts. It's a Turkish import. Apparently this Hatsan Arms has an endless supply of walnut. I wasn't going pounce until I did a little research. Well, my wife buying six new pairs of shoes helped me make the decision too. $270, man!!! Can you believe that?

Not familiar beyond "I've heard of them".  I've read that the Turkish made 1911a1 handgun copies are surprisingly well made.  I would assume that the steel isn't up to the quality we are used to seeing from American manufacturers, but I have nothing other than suspicion to base that on.

For $270 you should be able to get into a Mossberg, no?

I'm trying to stay away from synthetic stocks. I like Mossberg. I have a couple synthetic stocks. The Plinkster has one. They seem slippery to me. I have the space for skeet and want something that I have a good grip on. I should say my FIL needs a good grip on it. He's 70 and wants to shoot a bit with me. That escort has a beautiful walnut stock. I haven't held one yet. I'm going tomorrow to take a closer look. The reviews were very good. If you know of a good deal on the Mossbergs with a wood stock then don't be shy, man.

can't say I've shopped them recently, so no, I don't know of any.

I'm pretty distrustful of emerging country products.  I'd buy a used Mossy or Remington before I'd buy a new turkish shotgun, but again, it's suspicion with little basis on my part.

I have no idea if it translates into firearms, but turkish machined part suppliers are considered second tier, right behind the US, Japan, and Germany. In line with places like South Korea and the Czech Republic. in other words, we don't get much of a discount, but expect perfect adherence to relatively tight specs.

I only own one used gun. My Topper model 158. It was a Bday gift from my father when I turned 12. I was far too petite and it kicked my ass but it's still my favorite. The 5 of us boys and dad never got along as well as when we were shooting. Guns are serious and there were strict gun handling rules. Shooting was polite and respectful. The only time any of us were gentlemen. Good old memories. My FIL's father and I were two peas in a pod. Everyone still calls me little Papa. I'm guessing that's why he wants to go shooting with me?

I'm getting back into it the older I get to relive those old good memories. I'm simple like that. I haven't lived the hunting/fishing lifestyle for 25 or more years. A bit here and there but nothing near the amount a guy like me needs.

Anyhow. I also have an awareness for the heartache a gun could potentially bring. I like good mojo at Baileyshire so I only buy new guns that I can trust are clean. I hope that makes some sense.

Did not know.  Hmmmmm......

Went to a "fancy" sporting clay outing. A beautiful Shooting club in Pennsylvania. An introduction was given to the guests by the club president on safety and protocol.

Safety will be adhered to and all guns will be breached before exiting the stand and spent shells will be placed in containers along side the stands.

No swearing or profanity will be tolerated.

No throwing of guns will be tolerated.

No alcohol will be tolerated while on the course.

If you wish to get drunk, swear and throw things join a country club. I hear that it's acceptable practice there. Here we act as Ladies and Gentlemen.

The gentleman giving that speech was a "blue collar" worker that was one of the many that built one of the nicest gun clubs I have every been to. Love and passion drove that club more than money and hierarchy. It is more common place in my findings to see that type of club than a club built on status and the money spent on your firearm.

I understand where you are coming from. Once a loading weapon is in your hands you are expected to be the very definition of an esquire.

I have an understanding of your mojo, but for the complete opposite reason, mine is all good. I've purchased quite a few used guns with no moral conflict of their past as I knew their future  would be used going out with family and friends to create some of our fondness memories.

Did a liiitle fishing in Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks this last week. Just casting off of a dock. Got a few nibbles, but nothing to show of it. Not super surprising based on where I was; it was nice to just finally get a line in the water.

I hear you, I caught nothing today with the exception of a few round Gobies while helping the kids off the dock, it's still well worth it to be fishing

I'm told that gobies won't feed off bottom.  Use floating beads to get your bait 6" inches off bottom and gobies won't be an annoyance.  Or so I'm told.  I don't fish with bait really anymore.

This is absolutely right, my sons are just getting into fishing and for some reason enjoy catching them, especially the three year old. He thinks they look like aliens.

I use a plastic bait that looks like a gobie and have caught some nice smallmouth on it

Need some info from my fellow gun wackjobs. Been a long time since I been shooting or bought a gun. Being the superior portion of the human race (lefty) I am thinking of getting a little left handed 22. Looking for some opinions on makes and models. Also I seen u pthread about ammo shortages. Whats that about? Last time I was target shooting 22 ammo was dirt cheap.

Another lefty.  Nice!

Not much made specifically for lefties.  In bolt action, Savage makes a lefty .22 and CZ makes one as well.  CZ 452 is a really high quality firearm.  I want one of these badly. On my list to get one day.  Savage makes a nice .bolt action 22 as well.  My son has one.  It's a shooter.  You probably won't get to handle a lefty bolt gun before buying though.  Very hard to come by.  You'll have to order one. Noone seems to stock them.  Look over a right handed model and make your choice I guess.  As far as I know, no other maker produces a lefty bolt gun.

If you don't want a bolt gun, autoloaders and lever guns are pretty easily used by lefties.  Marlin, Winchester, Henry all make real nice lever guns.  I have a preference for Marlin personally, but all of them are good quality.  Plenty of good autoloaders out there too.  Ruger 10/22 of course.  Marlin autos are plain, and pretty basic but last forever if well cared for.  The only difference of significance is you'll work the safety backwards, but that's easy enough to get used to.
