...and we have a new hot dog eating champion.  62 dogs and buns in 10 minutes for new champ Matt Stonie.

So, apparently there's Major League Eating, which ranks the competitive eaters.  "Buffalo" Jim Reeves, a teacher in Gowanda, is ranked #18 and competes at every Buffalo Wing Festival.  He holds the record for watermelon eating: 13.22 pounds of watermelon in 15 minutes.  #43, Matt Bonnano, is from Ontario, NY.

As w/ all athletes, he may be past his prime. Ate 69 dogs 2 years ago. Only had 60 today. That's a substantial drop. What a sad day....

Let me add I do enjoy watching it every year, and I was pulling for Chestnut to win again.

I do enjoy fireworks in the night sky on the 4th.

I feel like there is something wrong with me. I don't like fireworks. All the noise is just not my thing. What I really don't like are all the amateurs out there endangering their loved ones for a cheap thrill. I've never really understood it.

I'm with you. Just got home and my neighborhood is still a goddamn war zone. So annoying.

I don't particularly enjoy amateur meatheads setting off sparklers and roman candles in the backyard either.  But a professional show in a big park or waterfront on a nice summer night?  Fantastic.
