It's just veteran depth. I really think they're waiting to see if Chicago will clear space for Oduya, if they don't I believe he pulls the trigger with the Sabres.

COLAIACOVO SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL WITH SABRES

BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 3, 2015) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo to a one-year contract.

Colaiacovo (6’1”, 200 lbs., 1/27/1983) appeared in 33 games last season with the Philadelphia Flyers, recording eight points (2+6) and 10 penalty minutes. Since his selection in the first-round (17th overall) of the 2001 NHL Draft, Colaiacovo has appeared in parts of 12 seasons with the Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 434 NHL games, the defenseman has recorded 152 points (33+119) and 221 penalty minutes.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Colaiacovo has represented Canada in the World Championship (2011) and World Junior Championship (2002 & 2003), capturing silver at both World Junior Championships.

Shouldn't you be citing these?

Anyway, as for the signing, we will see how it goes until he's injured after week 2.

I am also a Leafs fan and I remember when he was drafted that the Leaf fans were just waiting for him to be the next Paul Coffey.  Concept of Kassian may have been Concept of Carlo.

There's also a Colaiacovo family in Jamestown NY. Probably all related.

You'd be surprised.  My surname is quite rare; my dad met some people with the same last name less than a hour's drive from Buffalo and we could find no linkage between the families.

Honestly, he's terrible.  He's no better than Benoit from last season.  If this is the defensemen to fit in the top six, we might a well bring back Andrej Meszaros.

That was my thought as well.

I think he's good for depth, I think Murray would like to trade for an LD or get Oduya, or even both. However, he's also smart enough to pick up some relatively good D that can still play a bit if he's unable to get the others completed. After all, would you rather have to scramble to scrape what's left of the UFA D guys in September or have a bit of choice and prepare for whatever may happen.

I like Colaiacovo.  He has a lot of talent, but is always hurt.  Was very solid for St. Louis, but that was really the last time he was healthy.

At less than a million per year, I like the signing.

Murray is solidifying our floor. We just signed 3 guys who we can call up in case Pysyk has another scare, McCabe flops, or anybody else gets hurt.

The tank is over, so we don't have to call up a Mike Card type who will sit on the bench looking terrified.

I'm hoping McCabe spends the whole year In Rochester with maybe a late season call up as a reward

His lawyer brother Emilio who works downtown should be happy he now has family in town.  HIs lawyer brother is also a real jerk so hopefully that doesn't run in the family.

It's not his brother, he's a very nice guy, and he'll be a judge in about four months.

It is his cousin, though. Per a member of the organization.

Likely distant based on the way they communicate on Twitter (meaning the lawyer tweets at him and Carlo doesn't respond).

I gotta say: That is a *STRONG* first post offering.

I also note with interest that Emilio had/has a matrimonial practice. Perhaps the former Mrs. Paco Taco made out better than this poster would have liked.

Boom.

Or he rarely Tweets.
