He just turned 25.  He's from Oklahoma -- there can't be too many NHLers from there.

6'0", 200.  Drafted by Islanders in 4th round in 2008.

12 NHL games last season, 52 the year before, 3 the year before that.

Sounds like an Amerk.

GM TM meant it when he said he wants to win in Roch, too.

Well, in fairness, he did bring in a truckload of AHLers last year also. It's just, this year's AHLers might actually play in the AHL.

Official from the team:

SABRES SIGN DEFENSEMAN MATT DONOVAN

BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 1, 2015) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed defenseman Matt Donovan to a one-year contract.

Donovan (6’1”, 205 lbs., 5/9/1990) completed his first full season on an NHL roster in 2014-15, appearing in 12 games with the New York Islanders. The Edmond, Oklahoma native was selected by the Islanders in the fourth round (96th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft and has appeared in 67 NHL games in parts of three seasons, totaling 19 points (2+17) and 26 penalty minutes.

In addition to his NHL experience, Donovan has appeared in 180 games and recorded 119 points (32+87) and a plus-37 rating in four AHL seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He also represented the United States at the 2014 World Championship and won gold with Team USA at the 2010 World Junior Championship.

Excited to be part of the @BuffaloSabres organization! Ready for the fresh start and I can't wait to get started! #Sabres

Oh hell no

Islanders fans were annoyed to lose him and really wanted him to play more last year. I think he deserves a chance to earn a bottom pairing role. He was also a free agent sleeper.

I'm interested

(He's got a 200 post hype thread on the islanders hf forum lol

Great interview with Donovan on Sabres Hockey Hotline today - if they post in on GR you should listen.  He actually was up with the Islanders for the entire season last year but was scratched 70 times.  Let's not forget that the Isle added Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy which pushed down everyone else in the rankings.  Sounds like he has his head on right and will be given a fair opportunity to make the team.
