TrueBlueGED Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 If it's the low end of the recovery timetable he could still win the Calder. Plus this is probably better than getting a separated shoulder, since no risk of tissue injury. Sucks, but dodged a bullet in a sense.
shrader Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 From that clip, I have no idea what happened to Kelly.
Stoner Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 For something like this... to happen to a kid like that... IN HIS ROOKIE SEASON :SOB:  :OHMYGODMYSONISDEAD:
X. Benedict Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 From that clip, I have no idea what happened to Kelly. That looks like a career ender for a 34 year old 3rd/4th liner.

Iron Crotch Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Watching Leafs - Jets. Tyler Myers looks terrible again. He's a -7 on the year and really struggling in his own zone. But, at least he's not a coke fiend. ;)
Hoss Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Babcock calling for larger nets. http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2015/11/04/babcock-the-nets-too-small-for-the-size-of-the-goalies-period/ He and Holland were big voices behind the 3-on-3 change. We'll see if this is another project for at least one of that duo.

Randall Flagg Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Chicago went up 5-0 on St. Louis in the first period today. The game is now 5-5. At the end of the second.
Hoss Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Chicago went up 5-0 on St. Louis in the first period today. The game is now 5-5. At the end of the second. Sadly that's not true. It was 5-2.
Doohicksie Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 WPG wins. You won't see a prettier winning goal than this.
Randall Flagg Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Sadly that's not true. It was 5-2. You're right, I don't know what mistake I made reading the boxscore. I should take a break from the computer tonight.

ubkev Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Can someone figure out what percentage of the net goalies occupied when there was actually scoring in the NHL vs what percentage of the net they occupy now? Take the difference and expand the nets by that much.

Take the difference and expand the nets by that much. How about looking at how the game was played then and how it's played now and working on that, instead of what ISN'T the problem. In the 80s, playmakers made plays. Kind of like in 2006.
WildCard Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Stats question too. Isn't GAA average a useless stat? Does it take into account how terrible your team is, the amount of shots you face, the quality of shots, or the time spent on the pk? What is the better stat to evaluate goalies?

The other hand would be the penalties never being called. The net expansion was more of a general musing on my part. Edited November 5, 2015 by ubkev

Goaltending style has also changed a ton and you don't see these guys skating around or standing up like idiots nearly as often now. I think tiny size increases wouldn't hurt but would prefer some other changes first. Edited November 5, 2015 by Hoss
LTS Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 The simple solution is to call the penalties that are happening. Allowing the interference, etc. is a way to keep the teams closer together in the standings by not allowing the truly talented to move more freely and create goals. I don't see anything else required at this point.

darksabre Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 I agree with this 100%. What the heck happened over the last 10 years?! Was it just a slow creep back to the clutch and grab era? Not so much clutch and grab as "stand your ground". Defensemen can interfere with you under the guise of holding their ground. It's why you see forwards without the puck having such a hard time getting around defenders now. The defenders are under no obligation to move, they just can't hit you. They basically set picks now, and it slows the game down.
Doohicksie Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 The defenders are under no obligation to move, they just can't hit you. Ah, but they do move. They move into the forecheckers' way. They try to disguise it as turning to chase the puck, but they just happen to swing a little wider than normal and impede the entering forward.

It's a skilled motion that gives the illusion of not interfering when in fact it is.
