Stoner Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 You're right, but that's totally a goal. That makes no sense. If it's totally a goal, it's totally a goal.
Rasmus_ Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 The Preds re-signed defensman Mattias Ekholm for 6 years. He is a really good young defenseman. Might be my favorite Preds player. http://predators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=784784 Poile is such a savvy GM. Ekholm gets extended at the right cost and keeps this team's defense stacked for years to come.
TrueBlueGED Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 That makes no sense. If it's totally a goal, it's totally a goal. Not really. It's the kind of thing where the call on the ice will stand because there's not indisputable video evidence to overturn. Doesn't mean the puck didn't cross in the glove, just that we can't prove it.

Hoss Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 Reminder: the NHL doesn't allow diagonal angles for goal reviews in situations like that. The "parallax angle" comes into play. With that said: it was a goal. The ref actually called it a goal initially but then skated over towards the reply booth and said he "wasn't sure" so it was no goal on the ice. Review didn't have good angles. There's a photo of the puck completely over the line but no way for the refs to have a photographers photo during the replay.

And is there a link to the photo? In situations like this where there isn't a definitive call on the ice, are we OK with using a different standard? Instead of incontrovertible evidence, merely preponderance of evidence or something? In other words, let Toronto make the call as if they're the ref. What was more likely than not to have happened?

Ask and you shall receive: Basically the diagonal angle from above doesn't give them anything conclusive when it's that close. If the puck is off the ice you'll see a bit of white because it isn't laying flat on the ice. IT'S TIME FOR GOAL LINE TECHNOLOGY AND CHIPS IN THE PUCKS. Thank you.

JJFIVEOH Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 I'd say we're even on the McDavid goal because he shouldn't have been playing that game to begin with. He should have been suspended for that hit on Oduya.

Randall Flagg Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Friedman's 30 thoughts: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-flames-willing-to-deal-but-is-anyone-else/ Sabres-related ones:26. One Maple Leaf on Jack Eichel: “The word is out…if you let him get going, he will embarrass you.” 27. Sam Reinhart downplayed his switch to wing from centre, saying he’s played it before at some international events and, at WHL Kootenay alongside older brother Max. He did say that the biggest difference between moving there at the NHL is how you get the puck in your zone. “When you’re at centre, you’re always moving. It’s easier to get going. When you get it on the wing, you’re often standing still. So, it’s harder to make that quick play.” Edited October 27, 2015 by Randall Flagg

On the power-play, coach Dan Bylsma said the Sabres’ first three extra-man goals 'don’t happen without his positioning in front.'" I have to say.... nice one, SabreSpace. You called it. ;)

Taro T Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 Habs gonna need a big comeback if they're gonna tie the record. Down late in the 1st 3-0. Miller stopped a breakaway and is moving well.
Randall Flagg Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 McDavid's east-west movement is ridiculous: http://vine.co/v/eY6tLLZi9Ih He has an assist tonight to extend his point streak to 6 games. This kid is great for the game. As are Eichel, Domi, Duclair, Panarin, and all the other young talent coming into the league this year.

Minnesota is about as good as team defenses get. I've thought that Connor is the best player to come into the league since Mario for a while now, and I still think it.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Eichel has a better defensive game throughout his career--his size/strength combo and reach (especially with the long stick) are natural advantages in that area, all else equal. He may even end up with more goals, but I'd be awfully surprised if his total offensive production was equal or greater.
