If Risto will sign for 5.5 I think we should def do it. I am not sold he will be a true #1 elite defender but I think he has the potential. I think this year we are seeing the disadvantage of playing him 30mins night and also giving him a subpar partner (compared to his skills).  Next year though, I want stability from him.

If he'll sign for $5.5, lock him up for 8 years.

Considering there's only about 10 "true #1 elite defenders" can't be too upset if he doesn't join that elite group. Give him a real #2/3 to be paired w/ & drop him to 24-25 minutes per game & he'll be worth every penny.

Will it be a max term deal, you think?

Wow.  Has he really fallen so far?  I haven't seen many Kings games.

The Kings waived him earlier in February and when he wasn't claimed he was sent to the minors.

Seems like he is probably just insurance for the Hawks.

Are the Sharks flying under the radar? They're within striking distance in the Pacific despite a down year compared to most of their recent regular seasons, but their roster has some tweaks this year.

They changed out a Niemi-Stalock tandem for Jones-Reimer. This will be interesting because Jones has been very good but both are untested in the playoffs.

They added Paul Martin and Joel Ward, two players with plenty of playoff experience.

Could they make a run?

I've been burned more then once thinking this was their year, but I couldn't argue your point.

Maybe he was never as good as we thought he was.  Or if he was, the concussion thing coupled with age has depleated his skills faster than normal.

I gotta admit, the band playing right into the introductions of the teams was pretty good. They'll never have a Super Bowl but the NHL is figuring it out.

They must be starting to design the jerseys for these outdoor games, because this it the best looking one yet.

...and I hate red jerseys.

Is Buffalo's outdoor game the only one in the US that they didn't have to use fake snow on the field?

Hockey in general, or specifically the Avs/Wings game?

Cuz I think it's been pretty good so far.

This specific game. Really loosey goosey. It's entertaining for sure.

I still can't get over how good it looks, though. They've come a long way since the scissor lifts of the first Winter Classic.

Right?

Imagine how good our next one will be.

That was a strange sequence. The net just sitting off the pegs and the refs just letting play continue. Varlamov ends up putting his own net back like a friggin beer league game.

Varlamov gets caught on his knees and leaves the top corner of the net exposed to a no-look backhand. I'm surprised more players don't try that move to catch goalies sleeping.
