Brawndo Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 Because NBC knows that the diehards who want to see McDavid will find a way (either when he plays their local team or on some sort of package) and the rest of the country doesn't know where Edmonton is. NBC was quite miffed that the NHL decided to have ESPN broadcast the World Cup, perhaps this is a slight jab at the NHL. Or as John Wawrow tweeted, nobody wants to watch the equivalent of the Titans vs Jags on national TV
darksabre Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 Sometimes two bad teams can play really entertaining hockey.
inkman Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 Sometimes two bad teams can play really entertaining hockey. Says a fan of one of the teams
Hoss Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 Russian report: Kovalchuk has told SKA that if he's not on roster in two days time he's terminating his contract and heading to North America To return to the NHL now he would need to rejoin the Devils. This offseason he can either rejoin the Devils with the Devils approval or become a free agent if all 30 teams approve.
Mustache of God Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 NBCSN has decided not to carry the Sabres-Oilers Game Tuesday Night, instead RJ returns for the call on MSG. Good: RJ is back, Bad: Why would the NHL dump the only national US Television Appearance by McDavid this year? Why is it even a question why they're bumping this game? Step out of your Sabres bubble and think about it. The Sabres and Oilers are terrible, terrrible teams. Nobody outside of these small-market cities give a damn about the teams since they've been IRRELEVANT for the past decade. Instead, the nation gets to watch one of the historically best team led by one of the greatest goal scorer of all time vs. a team surging up the standings led by another generational player whose been on fire since a slow start to the season. People can watch their McDavid highlights on youtube and the Sabres fans will still get to watch Eichel streak into the zone and force a pass. Fair note: I'm bitter I stayed up to 1:30 am to watch the Sabres get shutout last night.

The point is McDavid-Eichel, and that hasn't changed

WildCard Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 It's about ratings. It's clear the that WSH v PIT game has the better story line and will attract more viewers. Then it should have been clear from the start of the season is what I'm saying
Taro T Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 The NHL new the game was going to be bad from the start, that's not the point. The point is McDavid-Eichel, and that hasn't changed But it has changed. The idea was to give Canadian viewers 1st crack at this matchup & American viewers the rematch. Oh, snap, this isn't the rematch anymore. ;) Give regular hockey fans a chance to watch a better game & those w/ CI a chance to see an historic matchup. Win-win. :p

It's not the rematch, it's the first ever meeting!
Taro T Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 But doesn't that make it better? It's not the rematch, it's the first ever meeting! But now TSN can claim exclusive non-local broadcasting rights to the 1st matchup which in NHL-Executive land apparently is a good thing. ;)
JJFIVEOH Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 Did somebody tell Nick Foligno that he's in a contract year?
darksabre Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 Did somebody tell Nick Foligno that he's in a contract year? Someone should let him know that there's not supposed to be that much scoring in an NHL game in February.
Hoss Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 Neuvirth with one of the biggest robberies I've ever seen. Wild were down 3-2 and would've tied the game with 1.6 seconds to go if this hits the net. https://twitter.com/myregularface/status/703046265655918593 https://twitter.com/shane1342o/status/703046867224031232 https://twitter.com/myregularface/status/703046432203390976

SwampD Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 McDavid just tested his other collarbone out on the goal post.

SwampD Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 Damn... I'm glad. At least I have something to watch for next 2 hours.

dudacek Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 Was that Oduya he schooled? Joel always had that ability, just never could turn it into results. Hope he's turning the corner, because it sounds like the detail parts of his game have been good this year. If he hits his ceiling he could have been a great fit with Eichel.
