Thorner Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 Since when is the ~8th best player in the league no longer considered world class? Nobody said he sucks, just that he's not top-3/5. Precisely. Just $5.9M Ridiculously good value for Florida.
Eleven Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 So what's to stop someone like Toews or Kane as declaring a residence in Florida and getting that tax benefit? They're on the road most of the time anyway, and could spend their summers in Florida It's too late at night for me to do this, but no. 183 days for residency, for one. And they all pay taxes where they play. Play a game in NYS? Pay NYS taxes on that game. So sure, a small advantage to Florida and Texas. And somewhat Tennessee.
Marvelo Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 Don't really care. I guess it encourages both trades and loyalty, somewhat. Very few players are of the caliber where 7 or 8 year contracts are the options. I'd venture to say that very few players are of the caliber where a 4 year contract is the option. Yet we keep finding the ones not to sign and sign em up.

And does that mean Stamkos' contract can't really cover the $10m in gap through tax loopholes?

That Aud Smell Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 That has to be a pain in the ass when tax time rolls around. for the agents and accountants. i believe there are also municipalities that levy the so-called "jock tax." st. louis, for one.
shrader Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 for the agents and accountants. i believe there are also municipalities that levy the so-called "jock tax." st. louis, for one. Is it a fee per scratch?

WildCard Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Ehlers with his first hattie of his career, and now has 12-10-22 in his rookie campaign. Damn, I really wanted this kid.
Randall Flagg Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Joe Thornton got his 1300th point tonight.
Thorner Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Joe Thornton got his 1300th point tonight. Very, very impressive stuff from Jumbo Joe.
Sabel79 Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Time for my semi-monthly screw Jack Edwards post... https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/jack-edwards-rips-chris-stewart-s-iq--ducks-forward-hits-back--video-055721046.html This from the guy who had to change his pants after Lucic steamrolled Miller. Of all the pricks who ever pricked, Edwards is just about the biggest prick. Nothing in this post has anything to do with the fact that I'm in the middle of my second week on night shift and am three beers into the morning. Nope...

If it was really a matter of intelligence, wouldn't you want to question the guy fighting someone twice his size?
Sabel79 Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 It's clearly a matter of intelligence, in an O'Henry sort of way...

Nothing in this post has anything to do with the fact that I'm in the middle of my second week on night shift and am three beers into the morning. Nope... I understand the hate. But, try as I might, I just don't share it. I think Edwards is a talented talker with a quick wit, and it also an elite level homer. Maybe the biggest homer in all sports broadcasting. He also happens to shill for a franchise that I genuinely dislike. Even with all that, I sorta like it in an abstract way. RJ is a more likable personality and person than Edwards -- but I would still expect him to take a similar angle to that sort of situation (i.e., if a smallish Sabre scrapped with a heavyweight).
inkman Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 If it was really a matter of intelligence, wouldn't you want to question the guy fighting someone twice his size? Yeah I don't know what Krug was thinking. There is just nothing positive to gain. He knew he was overmatched and got his ass kicked.
Randall Flagg Posted January 27, 2016 Report Posted January 27, 2016 Honestly, Edwards wasn't a homer when Buffalo played in Boston the day after Christmas. He sounded positively thrilled that Eichel put up four points, and with how well ROR played.
