WildCard Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Rumor: Stamkos was offered an 8yr 68mil (8.5avg) deal by the Lightning. Yzerman and Stamkos have refused to discuss this rumor publicly. My guess would be Stamkos would ask for closer to 10mil but at least there seems to be a discussion occurring. Good for TB, that's what he's worth. That's a slap in the face. Stamkos is as good as gone now. He may view it as one, but it's not. That's right on par with what a smart team would give him. No doubt someone will overpay for him at $10m/year, but that would be a mistake

For a net difference of $2MM (unless he's expecting to get another deal signed in 8 yrs, or looking for ~$12MM/yr, not much difference in the grand scheme between the 2 offers).
Randall Flagg Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 That's a slap in the face. Stamkos is as good as gone now. Nah, especially not if that was their first offer. He'll counter with something ridiculously high and they'll work from there.

He can't sign contract at $10m/8 years in the offeason for a max value of $80m?
Taro T Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 I'm confused. He can't sign contract at $10m/8 years in the offeason for a max value of $80m? ONLY w/ the team that has his rights pre-trade deadline.
WildCard Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 ONLY w/ the team that has his rights pre-trade deadline. Wait, really? He can't sign a 10X8 this offseason with, say, the Leafs?
Eleven Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Wait, really? He can't sign a 10X8 this offseason with, say, the Leafs? I think term is limited to 7 years unless the team had his rights prior to the trade deadline.
Taro T Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 I think term is limited to 7 years unless the team had his rights prior to the trade deadline.Correct. The 8 year thing is in there to give players an incentive to give a "home town discount" in a manner.
WildCard Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Huh, did not know that. What's everyone's feelings on that rule?
Eleven Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Huh, did not know that. What's everyone's feelings on that rule? Don't really care. I guess it encourages both trades and loyalty, somewhat. Very few players are of the caliber where 7 or 8 year contracts are the options.
Hoss Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Why did this thread suddenly turn on Toews and act like he's not a world-class player?
WildCard Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Why did this thread suddenly turn on Toews and act like he's not a world-class player? Man, where have you been?
Hoss Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Man, where have you been? I've noticed it for a while but these last few days/week has been pretty harsh for one of the game's best players and a Hall of Fame lock.
TrueBlueGED Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Why did this thread suddenly turn on Toews and act like he's not a world-class player? Since when is the ~8th best player in the league no longer considered world class? Nobody said he sucks, just that he's not top-3/5.
WildCard Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Since when is the ~8th best player in the league no longer considered world class? Nobody said he sucks, just that he's not top-3/5. I really wish I had the effort to make a bracket based on the final rosters of each of our teams in the draft thread. Short of that we can always start a Top 10 NHL players thread and vote it down to the top 5 Off the top of my head, the top 5 I have are, in no order Kane, Toews, Karlsson, Ovechkin, Bergeron
qwksndmonster Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 I think I need to take a nap. I read your list and thought, "What, no Ovechkin?!" /facepalm
Randall Flagg Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Since when is the ~8th best player in the league no longer considered world class? Nobody said he sucks, just that he's not top-3/5.I was the one with the jab, so I'll clarify; this is where I fall as well. I think he's the 2nd or 3rd best defensive center in the league, behind Bergeron and Kopitar depending on the season. Top 10 player on my list, probably, though I'd have to sit and put effort into it to be sure. I just reject WC, THN, and others putting him in the top 3 (I think THN had him first or second?)
Brawndo Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Barkov tweets he signed a six year extension with The Panthers
Hoss Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Barkov tweets he signed a six year extension with The Panthers Just $5.9M
Stoner Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Huh, did not know that. What's everyone's feelings on that rule? I could tell you, but then I'd have to... ya know.
WildCard Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 I could tell you, but then I'd have to... ya know. Whack me?
drnkirishone Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 Whack me?what happens between 2 consenting adults is none of my business.
TrueBlueGED Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 Just $5.9M That's an insanely good contract for Florida.
Brawndo Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 Speaking of Florida Contracts, a possible incentive for Stamkos to take less to stay with Tampa Bay? http://www.tampabay.com/sports/hockey/lightning/inside-the-money-matters-for-steven-stamkos/2262766

They're on the road most of the time anyway, and could spend their summers in Florida
