Samson's Flow Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 I'm convinced, good work. I'd guess that the baseball ASG A: looks like regular baseball as team chesistry isn't as important to playing normal-looking baseball and B: that weird home-field advantage thing for the WS is riding on it. Baseball ASG has the benefit of most closely resembling the normal product only with better players. That is why it is more widely viewed than say Football or Hockey ASG's. The sports that rely heavily on a physical component to make the game appear competitive suffer the most, as star players will not risk injury over a meaningless game. To provide an off the wall example of the concept, All Star chess competition would work, an all-star boxing tournament would not.

Samson's Flow Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 I fully agree. And kudos for nabbing the Eichel/Reinhart avatar. Thanks. It was my favorite moment from last night's brawl that the whole team was living it up in the hallway back to the locker room. Now I just have to post a bunch in the next 24 hours to claim my territory.

Samson's Flow Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Bingo. For me, the "real" NHL all-star game happens at the Olympics. Right. I'll watch Olympic hockey until i'm blue in the face. Watching the world's best compete and go all out to win is hugely entertaining.
Taro T Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Bingo. For me, the "real" NHL all-star game happens at the Olympics. Canada Cup / World Cup as well. If they ever hold that one again. '87 Finals was best 3 game series ever.
Hoss Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 I'll be interested to see how big of an impact Jaden Schwartz' impending return will have in St. Louis. I haven't been shy about my liking of his play in the past, and I think they've sorely missed him.
LGR4GM Posted January 21, 2016 Author Report Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) Judging from the Detroit lineup, Larkin has been moved to Datsyuk's wing. Edited January 21, 2016 by LGR4GM
TrueBlueGED Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Judging from the Detroit lineup, Larkin has been moved to Datsyuk's wing. Goes from Zetterberg to Datsyuk? That's good rookie livin.
Randall Flagg Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Another Player's Tribune article, I know people here like to read these: http://www.theplayerstribune.com/justin-abdelkader-college-hockey-red-wings/ Justin Abdelkader describes his college experience.

I bet it is an amazing feeling, playing for your school. The Wings have a lot of Michigan natives/locals on their team right now. Blame the local schools or homerism, but it is kinda neat. Sometimes I wonder if they'd have a better team if there weren't so many locals, if there is some local favoritism happening in the Griffins/Red Wings franchise... I like these articles. I like humanizing these famous giants of the sport I love.
LTS Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 How many people here typically watch the ASG & how many were planning on watching this one? WC is on record as saying he'd watch it, not many others were planning on it. WE are that hard core NHL following & we (in vast majority) don't give a rat's bippy about the ASG. Though the novelty of the 3v3 might have spurred a slight increase in ratings, the games will likely be just as bad as the 5v5 ASG's. So after the hard core fans that believe Scott was getting jobbed have seen that this format is just as lame as before, they won't bother tuning in next year anymore than they did last time, or for the one before that, or the on before that, ad infinitum. (Or at least back to the '90's.) The ASG is not professional hockey - there is even less contact than in beer league. Most hardcore fans don't watch because the game isn't pro hockey. Many here weren't even going to check a few minutes of the game due to the shabby treatment of Scott. That would have left the hardcore fans that would give this gimmick a chance, their 1st chance to see the gimmick in action next year. 1 viewing should be enough to let them see whether it's as dumb as many expect it to be. Past ASG ratings indicate that casual fans aren't attracted to the game enough to overcome the disdain hardcore fans feel towards it. I'd expect the Scott controversy will draw some more casual fans in but probably not enough to overcome the quantity of fans that were going to boycott the game. I interpreted your increase in rating as coming from the sheer amount of people who voted for John Scott somehow also wanting to watch him play hockey. I suppose there are some fans who will tune in. I know I won't. I couldn't care less about the ASG. Skills competition, yes. Bingo. For me, the "real" NHL all-star game happens at the Olympics. Ding ding ding.
Huckleberry Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/gotta-hear-it-babcock-has-coachs-challenge-concerns/ babcock on the challenge, can't disagree with him.

The league should pressure the Hawks to have him back out of the ASG, and if he doesn't, trade him out of the division and banish him to the AHL.
biodork Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 http://imgur.com/a/ZCheZ Screenshots of a story of a woman claiming Patrick Kane raped her in 2014. I would say assaulted and not raped given the description, but yikes if it's true.
darksabre Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 http://imgur.com/a/ZCheZ Screenshots of a story of a woman claiming Patrick Kane raped her in 2014. Who the hell posts on livejournal anymore?

biodork Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Do we know anything about Evander Kane? She lumps him together with Patrick Kane The same people with a tumblr account And Mike Ribeiro... I don't recall having heard anything about him before, so maybe she just named random players?

Any player that wants to get more money they are not comfortable with is out the door. The league should pressure the Hawks to have him back out of the ASG, and if he doesn't, trade him out of the division and banish him to the AHL. From something someone posted online, who knows if its true or not. And she drags evander and ribeiro into it while she doesn't know them. It could be true, and if it is there is not much anyone can do about it now. But brave of her to come out and tell her story if its true.
LGR4GM Posted January 21, 2016 Author Report Posted January 21, 2016 On November 29th 2014 the Hawks played the Kings in LA. The Hawks then had a 4 day break before their next game suggesting the Hawks would not have immediately flown out of LA. This indicates the alleged incident could have taken place as described.
Weave Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) Wow. That was a disturbing read. And Mike Ribeiro... I don't recall having heard anything about him before, so maybe she just named random players? Nope. Ribeiro has had legal troubles regarding sexual assault. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/mike-ribeiro-settles-sexual-assault-civil-case-with-former-nanny-200520087.html I'm sure she's jaded enough at this point to assume any allegation is true. If her story is accurate, I can't blame her. Edited January 21, 2016 by We've
