Ovechkin just scored his 500th goal.

Imagine if they didn't spend 2-3 seasons slashing his ice time for not playing defense. Also imagine if the NHL properly designed itself to promote superstar talents.

Also imagine if he didn't miss 1.5 seasons due to lockouts.

He's an all-time great for sure.

Hold up there.

Superstars can play both ways too, or just D.

The two most defensively-oriented teams in the league met up tonight.  True to form, the Devils - Wild game was a snoozer.  0-0 through two periods.  35 shots combined.  Awful hockey to watch.

Sure they can, but neutering your offensive superstar for the sake of trying to change his game is moronic.

Ok, that, I'll agree with.

One of Lindy's faults (and one of the board's faults) was expecting Max to play D, for example.

Ovechkin's game winner tonight is somethin' else. Wow.

Seriously. You want to show someone a dominant player making people look stupid trying to defend them, this is the goal I pick. Like there wasn't a doubt in his mind as soon as he got the puck in his end that he was scoring.

I love these.  http://www.theplayerstribune.com/ryan-whitney-russia-khl/

The six other imports are sitting shoulder-to-shoulder: Two Finns. A Swedish kid. A goalie from Czech. A center from Canada. And another defenseman from America.

You remember the scene in Band of Brothers when they send the baby-faced kids out to the front for the first time, and all the grizzled old vets are walking back from two months in the ? That’s exactly what these guys looked like.

Just in complete shock. White in the face. Dazed. Thousand-yard stares. And here I am walking in half way through the season like, “Hey, what’s up, boys?”

The #canucks will place Chris Higgins on waivers tomorrow, Trevor Linden tells @sportsnetmurph. Says there wasn't much trade interest.

Should the Sabres claim him?

In other developments:  This is a superb deflection (best view starts at 0:43).
