bunomatic
Toronto's 'The Art of the Perfect Tank'  http://thehockeywriters.com/maple-leafs-news-the-art-of-the-perfect-tank/ Thats too funny. They were falling all over themselves to write disparaging stuff about the Sabres of the last two years and the leafs have literally tore a page from the Sabres tank manual but to hear these guys tell the story the leafs are writing the book. These Toronto sports writers can't see past their own noses.
LGR4GM
They will but they, unfortunately, have some really nice young pieces. If they do land the Loaf fan dream summer they won't be world beaters, but will be in the discussion for playoffs. Hopefully they don't get a real goalie nor any additional D help for Gardiner & Reilly. I am secretly hoping they draft 4th. If they get Matthews the talking heads of the Toronto media will prob explode. I am just so amused that 2 months ago the Toronto media were talking about how their rebuild is better than Buffalo's, in the only game they beat us this year and the only game I believe Jack Eichel missed all year. A year ago they were talking about how Buffalo was disgraceful for tanking. It really helps develop a fiery hatred for that team and everything they are trying to do. I hope we destroy them this season. Edited April 12, 2016 by LGR4GM

But as long as they don't land 1, it's all good man, as Nylander doesn't get the luxury of having Matthews ahead of him when they're both ready for top line duty. Kadri & Bozak, snicker. TO fans & media have looked down on the Sabres since '70. Heck, it probably dates back to when the awarding of an expansion franchise was announced. is what it is, but it does help stoke the rivalry. Yea, i really hope Nylander is their #1 just because I think he is a step below. If anyone wants a fun read, check out the tweets responding to this... my favorite is the guy who says it is likely they get both Stamkos and Matthews so obviously next year. Of course knowing the nhl this is exactly what happens. Naylor & Landsberg @NaylorLandsberg 3h3 hours ago The Maple Leafs finished 30th in the NHL this season. TrueBlueGED
I don't feel like scrolling down my twitter feed to find the original stuff, but apparently the NHL has clamped down on digital media and will no longer allow the posting of gifs. TrueBlueGED
idiots. "let's find some small-ish cool thing that arose from a grassroots level from hardcore fans, and destroy it." It really is like they're living in 1980. This is a league clearly in 4th place in the US and they basically say "free media coverage and exposure for our sport? No thanks." What kind of business turns down free advertising? Yeah, I saw that too. I'd like to see how they're going to enforce it. Probably the same way the NFL does. I don't know the legal details, but I know for instance the NFL contacted Jeremy White and shut down his gifs on Twitter from his all-22 articles. LGR4GM
I would say 15-20 seconds of a 60minutes thing definitely falls into the realm of fair use. A gif has 0 impact on the actual product. No one is canceling their NHL TV deal because they can just catch some gif's of goal son youtube. On top of that, the NHL really needs to tweak it's online video experience. I'm sick of sitting through 45 seconds of buffering advertisements for tires, only to get to the 20 second highlight I want to watch and have the player say "trouble loading, tap to retry" and have to watch the ad again. Stoner
maybe the league considers the @whopper69's of the world to be more in the realm of fair use? Many moons ago -- I want to say this was the playoff run of 1999, but it could have been the run of one year earlier -- I contributed to a fan site that posted audio clips of Rick's goal calls. I believe it was sabresonline.com (but it went by other names before and after it was sabresonline.com). The big cheese was PTS, who doesn't post here anymore. Anywho... he actually got a cease and desist letter from a league attorney re: the goal clips. Paul was just a teen at the time and it scared the hell out of him. I thought the clips would be covered by fair use. Great advice coming from the "adult." Paul got a visit from Postmaster General Wilford Brimley, but I think the therapy worked and Paul is fine today. Seriously, I don't remember if he ceased and desisted or kept posting them, or maybe the playoffs just ended. I'll have to ask him. I really couldn't believe the league would come after a fan site like that, a site that had no advertising, no sponsors, charged visitors nothing and didn't make a penny (in fact lost money when server costs were factored in). Yeah. All I know is that the two usual sources for these GIFs have totally disappeared. It's Putinesque. I heard she got hired by the Oilers? (Totally unsubtantiated.) I wonder if her presence on Twitter changes the thinking. It's a for-profit site, after all. It's not just a fan with a blog.
LGR4GM
The question with profit is does it have a negative impact on the original. Posting a gif of Eichel scoring does not impact the NHL. PPL are still buying the product and going to their website for things. It probably has the opposite effect. Also the NHL should be generating and posting these themselves but they live in 2001 and are a bunch of dinosaurs.

Of all the people, I'd expect you to be suspicious of NHL cronies saying "nothing to see here" while somebody like Stephanie disappears! Have you lost sense of self? :p :)
