Around the NHL: 2015-2016

I can't remember where all the gripping about the updated NHL.com, which I agree is just plain terrible, was going on.

Anyway, this thread gets a lot of action so I'll put this here ...

... the Rogers NHL mobile app is just awesome. I watched the Sabres' highlights this morning and it is really a great app.

I'll be the contrarian voice here. I like the new NHL site. I don't really care about looks all that much. I do care when stuff doesn't work, though, and that old site sucked hot ass. It was so slow and crashed my computer all the time. I also like being able to go right to NHL.TV (which I also think is better than the former GCL) to watch a game from the scores at the top.

There are a few bugs. The rollout was a disaster, and the iOS app is a hot mess, but in general the improvement in video quality has been worth it. I would expect the kinks to be worked out in due course.

Adding a bit of intrigue, I just got my renewal notice for MLB.tv. They dropped the price $20 for 2016. I'll be real interested to see what the NHL charges for next year...

I will admit that I had not taken much of a look at the new NHL.com, but after using the mobile app, which is a pretty small screen, I decided to poke around on NHL.com on my laptop.

The main page I don't really like, but when I drilled down into the site a bit it really is pretty good.  The highlights and game summary pages a very good, IMO, and the video looks to be high quality.  The team roster and stats page is quite useful too.

So, it is growing on me.

For me, nothing ever crashed or loaded slowly until they redid the site. And the amount of clicks and tabs it takes to navigate, combined with this, make it completely unusable. I tried to like it but I can't actually use it to do anything.

Its even more horrible on my phone, wanted to check out the score on Thursday night, but the score page just wouldn't load.   Could only see that dumb turning square.

Not a fan of the new NHL site at all, they should rethink the whole thing.

Man, I'm at the hurricanes game tonight and they are doing a tribute to the 06 canes..... They brought back the old team and the cup,and had a long ceremony before the game, got to rewatch over over the gut wrenching sabres game..... Ceremony was cool, but I'm still bitter.

I am staggered by your restraint and fortitude. I'd be setting things on fire were I in your position right now...

I was booing very loudly, everyone around me was just looking at me... I'm wearing a nordiques Jersey so I don't fit in at all hah, but they're playing the isles so I suppose I have the blue.

Expected outdoor slate next season:

Edmonton at Winnipeg in October 2016

Detroit at Toronto on January 1, 2017

Blackhawks at Blues on January 2, 2017

No, you're not crazy... The Leafs and Wings did play an outdoor game against each other just two years ago on January 1st.
