shrader Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Harmonic is the perfect opportunity for the Oilers to flip a forward for some much needed defensive help. I hope they fail miserably in this endeavor. Everything I've ever heard makes it sound like the Islanders want defense in return though. So Edmonton really has little chance there. Quote
MattPie Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 Wait, there's really a Mall Rats 2? http://zap2it.com/2015/09/kevin-smith-mallrats-2-shooting-location/ Quote
WildCard Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 I take Risto. I knock Seth Jones down a little just because he's playing for such a great defensive team. I'm not sure what he would do if asked to be the best defenseman on his team. I think you're right. Here are the graphs of Rasmus and Jones of Quality of Competition vs. Quality of Teammates with the Color Variable being FF/60 minutes. To sum it up, Jones and Rasmus are very good, but Hoss is right, Jones gets the much easier assignments http://war-on-ice.com/playerseason.html?woiid=ristora94 http://zap2it.com/2015/09/kevin-smith-mallrats-2-shooting-location/ I hope they bring back the painting Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 How does everyone feel about Risto vs Seth Jones? Probably Risto, but how the hell would we know what Jones would look like as a #1? I think it would make a ton of sense for Nashville to deal from their blue line for a 1st line forward, since having Weber, Josi, Jones and Ekholm seems redundant when your best center is either Wilson or Fisher. Not sure RNH is that guy, but I think Johansen would make a lot of sense. Quote
WildCard Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Holy hell guys, we need wingers. Ennis, who knows what he can do Moulson has been looking terrible, dude was on the 4th line tonight Gionta Kane is coming around, it seems to be a matter of who we pair him with Other than that though? Reinhart is not a winger, we all know this. Quote
Hoss Posted December 2, 2015 Author Report Posted December 2, 2015 Other than that though? Reinhart is not a winger, we all know this. You're right, but why isn't Reinhart a winger? If he isn't then O'Reilly is. I remember some comparisons to Patrick Sharp when considering the possibility he was moved to wing. We've got maybe two good wingers right now. Bailey and Baptiste have a shot to develop but in the meantime I'd like to see somebody added. Quote

We may need someone from outside of the organization at this point. Atleast Gionta will be gone soon, Molson signing is looking like a pretty big mistake. Quote

In order to have long term success like the Black Hawks a team needs to keep the minors/juniors stocked, else one finds them selves in the same mess as the Penguins. Quote
nfreeman Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 Stamkos, anyone? Nearly six months later, there's still no deal for Stamkos, 25, the Lightning captain and face of the franchise, who is in the final year of his contract. The scary part for Lightning fans is that nothing appears even close to being done. This has an eerie feel to it, to the point the once unthinkable seems increasingly possible: Stamkos could be in his final few months in a Lightning uniform. http://www.tampabay.com/sports/hockey/lightning/stamkos-contract-saga-getting-eerie-feel/2255711 Quote

And that's without even getting into that Stamkos hasn't looked like the same guy since his leg exploded. Quote
Hoss Posted December 2, 2015 Author Report Posted December 2, 2015 He'll be a free agent probably which I would absolutely get involved with. I would also still trade for him if we could get an extension done first. Quote

I'm looking to bring in a guy that can play on Eichel's wing for the next 5 years. Not giving up assets for an expiring contract. I'm thinking long term here and that's why Gionta and Matty are not the answer and who can say Baptiste, Bailey or Hudson will be? I'm talking a Patrick Sharp type trade/signing like Chicago made. There's no legitimate reason not to pursue a star player, in my opinion. It's an interesting question. It will probably cost at least $12MM x 8 years, and likely $13MM+ x 8 years, to get him as a UFA. The cap is $71.4MM, and the steady annual cap increases appear to have ended for the time being. So at $13MM, you're looking at 18% of the cap for one guy -- with new contracts for the young guns coming due in the next few seasons. OTOH, he had 43 goals last year, and goalscoring will probably become an increasingly precious commodity over the next few seasons until the NHL decision-makers remove heads from rectums and change the rules to increase scoring. And he doesn't turn 26 until February -- so you're getting a good chunk of his prime and probably only 1 or 2 seasons of ineffectiveness at the back end. I'd probably open the vault for him -- and I suspect TP will be happy to do so and might urge GMTM to do so -- but I can understand the other side too. Quote

And I would think come the second half of his contract ( if structured right) he becomes trade-able. Just about the time the youngins are cashing in and we need to stock the picks/prospect cupboard again. Quote

One small clarification: on the open market he's only getting seven years which makes it an even easier deal to make. He's worth that kind of cash as one of the league's best forwards. We haven't had a player like him in a VERY long time, and he would give us the best top-six in the NHL within a few years of that deal with Eichel, Reinhart, Kane, O'Reilly and Stamkos. You can always figure out contract stuff for other guys later and make it work. I never worry about that when giving a contract to a 26 year old. If he was approaching 30 I'd be hands off all the way, but he'll play at an elite level for all seven years of that deal. I would also open the vault for him. Quote
WildCard Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 And how does Stamkos fit into our locker room? Quote

I think you'd be kissing Kane goodbye in a few years if you committed to that deal though. He'll be up for too much of a raise once his deal is done. Now, I'd gladly swap him out of our lineup for Stamkos, but I have a very hard time ever seeing the two of them on the same roster for more than 1-2 years. Quote

Same here. I just keep imagining a Dream Team scenario, where we just add a ton of talent with a lot of money but none of the cogs fit together. Expensive teams like that, in any sport, usually don't work Quote
