Hoss Posted June 29, 2015 Author Report Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Sounds like the Sekera dream may be over... Kings may be closing in on a 5 year deal worth around $4.75M per. The Richards deal coming off the books instead of being a buyout likely helps them get this done. That seems low... Especially considering Petry got almost a million more. I think Sekera should fire his agent if true. That's the second lowball offer he's taken in his career. Quote
X. Benedict Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 The Hoff suprisingly wants to play for a contender http://kuklaskorner.com/hockey/comments/christian-ehrhoff-wants-to-play-for-a-team-with-a-chance-to-win-the-cup?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Somehow I read that as meaning.......I don't want to be on a team where they could possibly consider me in the first pairing. CallawaySabres Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Get a Dman and forget about anyone on the wing.......I don't think I want to even add any more forwards. Let's see what the team has first and then make changes if necessary. Quote
Hoss Posted June 30, 2015 Author Report Posted June 30, 2015 My top targets for the Sabres in free agency would be Francois Beauchemin, Johnny Oduya, Paul Martin, Justin Williams and Joel Ward. One dman and one of the two forwards. Quote

One dman and one of the two forwards. Like your middle 3. Oduya is a dependable d-man that showed he can raise his level of play when needed. Looked great in the playoffs. Plus, he's a vet. Wouldn't have to sign him to a long term deal. Martin is also a vet that would be good for the young players. He's played w/ Bylsma before and can help establish his system in Buffalo. Williams is a legitimate RW. Put up 40+ points the past two seasons on a team not known for scoring goals. What about Christ Stewart? If Williams or Stewart were signed, that may push Gionta to the 4th line. Or would Buffalo put Williams or Stewart on the 4th? If that were case, what's the point in signing them? Wow, isn't it great to have so many questions about what lines/positions players should be on?! Edited June 30, 2015 by Thanes16 Quote

dudacek Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 I'm not looking for July 1 fireworks. The Sabres will sign or trade for one top-four D-man. I'd bet on the trade. Murray will target a younger puck-mover, maybe an RFA or pending RFA like Jared Spurgeon. They will also sign two depth NHL defencemen/minor league swingmen like Meszaros and Benoit and Strachan last year. They will not sign any forward of significance, unless it is to replace the guy they traded for the LHD They will sign a few young guys that Murray likes who weren't qualified by their teams — think Dalpe or D'Amigo. LGR4GM Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Also we need to think about how much money you want tied up in a 33yr old veteran going forward. Zemgus, Risto, Foligno, ROR, and Deslauriers are all about to get new deals. Now granted 1 or 2 might be moved but Zemgus, Risto, ROR are all going to get raises. Quote

Yea, Justin Williams is a prime candidate to be Shane Doan'd. Too much money/term because of past performance and becomes an utter shell of himself halfway through the contract. dudacek Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Justin Williams will (deservedly) be paid like a core guy. Sabres core forwards are already on the roster and they are all 25 or younger. Ain't happening. Quote

Too much money/term because of past performance and becomes an utter shell of himself halfway through the contract. I'm hoping based on age that it's a shorter term contract. I'm thinking 3 years max. That shouldn't mess with any of our young guys getting paid. As for your other question, I could really see TM going the trade route to solve our D issues. Foligno and/or Larsson look like prime targets to me. Although neither are RW so your point is well taken. Quote

Unless he takes a sweetheart deal as a Cup chasing mercenary, I'd be pretty surprised if he ended up with only 3 years or less. I expect 4-5. One thing to keep in mind is Williams has played most of his career underpaid because of bad timing on injuries, and already has two Cups. If there's anyone who would be inclined to chase the money, it's him. Why would Williams sign in Buffalo for three years? $$$$$$$$ Quote
Hoss Posted June 30, 2015 Author Report Posted June 30, 2015 I highly doubt Justin Williams gets any sort of crazy contract. If he does then obviously I don't want it to be here. If we can get him for 2-3 years then I would be happy with that. I understand that there's a logjam, and I won't be upset if we don't sign anybody. We would be fine without it. We can likely move a forward for a LHD as is and still be okay. I just like Williams and Ward as true vet right wingers. I'm more focused on Beauchemin and Oduya first. Martin as the fallback. Also, we shouldn't be completely ruling out right handed dmen. It's more likely we go for a LHD to give us 3 and 3, but handedness isn't an absolutely deterrent of where players play. Quote
