nfreeman Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Am I crazy or is Terry Murray GMTM's uncle? And now he's going to be an assistant coach on the Sabres? Does that strike anyone else as a strange situation? Quote
Hoss Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Am I crazy or is Terry Murray GMTM's uncle? And now he's going to be an assistant coach on the Sabres? Does that strike anyone else as a strange situation? He is. And I don't think so. He's highly regarded. One scribe just tweeted he gets a ton of credit for the LA Kings development. Quote
nucci Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Bylsma says Terry Murray & Dave Barr will be joining #Sabres coaching staff. (that's per a Tweet from the team.) good, experienced coaches. Quote
shrader Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Am I crazy or is Terry Murray GMTM's uncle? And now he's going to be an assistant coach on the Sabres? Does that strike anyone else as a strange situation? It does feel a bit odd to me, but I'd take this situation over the one from a few years back where people always wanted to add Mike Foligno. Having a father-son coach-player situation is one that would definitely look odd to me. Quote
dudacek Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 It is odd. Not sure if it shows balls from Bylsma, or the opposite. One thing is for sure, he is highly qualified. Our D-zone coverage will be a hell of a lot better next year. Quote

Doohicksie Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 I think it just reflects the relatively small world that is professional hockey. This is likely to happen once in a while. Quote

And at least it's someone incredibly qualified as opposed to hiring Steve-o Murray, his alcoholic 19 year old nephew. Quote
Doohicksie Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 What about nomenclature? So now we have GMTM and ACTM? Quote
wjag Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 What about nomenclature? So now we have GMTM and ACTM? How about GMTM and GMTM wannabe? Or GMTM the sequel Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 How often do we actually even mention the assistant coaches? Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Terry Murray coached the Kings from '08 until '12. According to wiki: "When the Kings won the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals under current head coach Darryl Sutter, they requested the NHL to have Murray's name included on the cup, but were denied by the NHL." beerme1 Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 How often do we actually even mention the assistant coaches? Trottier got mentioned a lot last year. Not sure what meaning that has though lol Quote
shrader Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 How often do we actually even mention the assistant coaches? It depends on the situation obviously. Remember the near universal praise we heard around here for Scott Arniel? I think it was before your time here, but people sure did love his work with the powerplay. Quote
Brawndo Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 @theroyalhalf: Buffalo Sabres fans should consider themselves #blessed to have Terry Murray behind the bench on such a young team. @simmonssteve: Nice hire in Buffalo. Uncle Terry Murray going to assist Dan Bylsma. Terrific hockey coach who had a lot to do with growth of LA Kings. Quote
Brawndo Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Anyone else get the impression that Arthurs Irbe will not be returning to the coaching staff? Quote
dudacek Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Waitaminnit! We got two Uncle Terrys now? Quote
Doohicksie Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Anyone else get the impression that Arthurs Irbe will not be returning to the coaching staff? No, not at all. I haven't gotten a read one way or the other. Quote
MattPie Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Waitaminnit! We got two Uncle Terrys now? PA is spinning up right now, I can't wait to see what he writes! Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Anyone else get the impression that Arthurs Irbe will not be returning to the coaching staff? I think the hold up with that isn't Irbe it is the Sabres lack of GT's. Bylsma might want a different coach depending on who ends up filling the crease. Quote
Doohicksie Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 who ends up filling the crease. Heh. Heheheheh. Heheh. Quote

I haven't gotten a read one way or the other. Someone asked a question about Irbe today but I didn't get to hear the answer because of work. Stupid work. Wasn't there a report that said they spoke to Irbe about staying? There was. But that's all we know. Quote
