dudacek Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 (edited) Next up in our player discussion series, a three-for-one special: #84 Phil Varone C (24-year-old RFA) Rochester 55/15/29/44/-7/22 Buffalo 28/3/2/5/-14/10 #20 Zac Dalpe RW (25-year-old RFA) Rochester 44/16/12/28/-7/0 Buffalo 21/1/2/3/-11/4 #49 Jerry D'Amigo RW (24-year-old RFA) Springfield 28/3/4/7/-4/26 Rochester 31/6/13/19/0/21 Buffalo 9/0/0/0/-4/2 Three players who failed to catch on with the teams that originally drafted them. Three players who were given another chance with the Sabres. Three players who have proven to be effective in the minor leagues, but have failed to grab regular NHL spots after at least four years pro. Dalpe can fly, Varone has good offensive instincts and D’Amigo plays hard all the time. So far, none of them have been able to capitalize on those gifts enough to overcome holes in other parts of their games. Has the window closed completely on their NHL opportunities? Will they be offered contracts. If so, will it be to play for the Amerks? dudacek Posted May 1, 2015 Author Report Posted May 1, 2015 I hope all three of these guys are re-signed and become part of the veteran core of the Amerks. They set the bar for the next wave of kids: "Compher, if you can't beat out D'Amigo, you are never going to play in the NHL." Quote

dudacek Posted May 1, 2015 Author Report Posted May 1, 2015 Yeah. I didn't vote because all of the above is not an option. The multiple choice button is on. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 The multiple choice button is on. Looks like only none of the above, though. Not all of the above. So, my write in vote is ... all of the above. Technically the way the question is worded, after a re-read on my part, I don't see a future with any of them with the Sabres, except for as an emergency / injury call up. Quote
Ogre Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 None of these guys have solid NHL talent. As far as the Amerks go... No to D'Amigo. I hate to admit it but I'd rather have Luke back before I'd take D'Amigo. Varone has some nice offensive play but disappears for multiple games. He isn't consistent enough. Dalpe, though, I'd take on my Amerks' roster. Good speed and a decent two way player. Quote
inkman Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 Waste of contracts. They were Amerks and never supposed to touch the NHL Quote
Rasmus_ Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 Varone, is about it. Dalpe has been inconsistent trash everywhere he's been. D'Amigo is completely replaceable. Varone is a nice call up for emergency purposes and played admirably. He can be replaced, but he's the only one here I'd like to see retained. Quote
Huckleberry Posted May 3, 2015 Report Posted May 3, 2015 Varone is the only one that should be signed, the other two can sign AHL contracts. Quote

dudacek Posted May 3, 2015 Author Report Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Interested in what a few people see in Varone. He's about as effective as Hodgson without the upside. Edited May 3, 2015 by dudacek Quote
dudacek Posted June 18, 2015 Author Report Posted June 18, 2015 Looks like two of the three will be back with the organization: Mike Harrington @BNHarrington On qualifying offers, GMTM said yes to Larsson, Schaller, Varone, D'Amigo. No to Dalpe, Sundher. Leduc/Lieuwen/Samuels-Thomas up in the air Quote

Huckleberry Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Don't think we'll see varone or d'amigo ever with the sabres again. Quote
Thorner Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Don't think we'll see varone or d'amigo ever with the sabres again. We may yet, Mr. Frodo. We may. Quote
