bunomatic Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Netflix recently added every single episode of M*A*S*H. That's on Netflix? I get the Canadian netflix which does have some programming differences than the U.S. netflix but yeah its there. Quote
Jeanbe Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Recently discovered they have Columbo. They have seven seasons of the show. This will resonate with certain members of this board. We grew up watching this. I've started back through, from the beginning. Definitely low def. First episode was 1971, 1971! Love looking at the cars, the technology (did you know they had remote controls of TVs depicted, even way back then, and, it didn't even have a wire). Meals in diners costs $1.25. Still waiting to see the gas prices of 32 cents. That's as low as I remember. Other things I notice. No bodies bleed on carpet when shot. I guess blood evidence got introduced later. Finger prints are pretty shoddy too. No worry about fiber evidence either. No cameras to capture everything. Rotary phones and pay phones everywhere that cost a dime. I clearly remember the dime. I've been watching Columbo too. Loved it growing up (I was 11 when it aired) and always remember my parents saying things like "oh, Jack Cassidy looks good". :) It is such a well written show and entertaining. I also have the Blu-ray as well as streaming and I catch up on older shows and movies I missed in theaters (most). Quote

Jeanbe Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Thanks. I see it now if I mask my IP. How are you doing it? I'm using tunnelbear and when I navigate (via browser) to Netflix they tell me my account is US based and can't log in. Quote

GoPre Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 Have any of you seen Hot Tub Time Machine 2? I enjoyed the first one a lot. Worth watching? What about Dumb and Dumber To? Just looking for something funny to watch. Quote
Claude_Verret Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 Just finished Bloodline. Finished Daredevil before that. Both were excellent...so what next? Quote

Just looking for something funny to watch. Both are worth a watch but I thought Dumb and Dumber To was definitely better than the Hot Tub Time Machine sequel. That one was ok but no where near as good as the first one. Just finished Bloodline. Finished Daredevil before that. Both were excellent...so what next? Not sure if you've already seen then or not but if you're looking for good shows on Netflix I can recommend Dexter, the Following, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Trailer Park Boys, Bates Motel, and Wentworth all pretty highly. I'm sure there are some others but I'm at work and that site is blocked so I can't pull up my list or recently watched items. Quote

Much appreciated! I'll give Dumb and Dumber To a shot this week. And yes, the first Hot Tub Time Machine was hilarious! Kind of like comedies that go back to the 80's. I was a young kid, but thought it was a great decade. Grew up listening to many of the rock bands that made it big right before or during the 80's. Quote
nfreeman Posted June 29, 2015 Report Posted June 29, 2015 OK, so I just got a nifty new 4K TV, which sounds cool, except that there is almost no 4K programming out there. Netflix has some 4K programming -- but I need to upgrade to the premium Netflix level to get it in 4K! My initial reaction was "over my dead body," but then I thought I'd ask whether anyone here has made the move and if so whether it's worth it. Thanks. Quote

Is it like the equivalent of Blu-Ray quality on the streaming side? I know on the disc side they have different prices for bluray vs regular dvds and different prices for the number of discs you can rent at one time. If that is the case and the price difference isn't too much, you might as well give it a shot, but the higher resolution will require streaming more data so make sure your wifi bandwidth is sufficient. Bob Malooga Posted June 29, 2015 Report Posted June 29, 2015 I recommend "Happy Valley," just watched that last night. This one might be a little weird, but I'll watch just about any documentary..."Hot Girls Wanted," by Rashida Jones. It talks about how more and more girls are leaving home and becoming porn stars or webcam models, and what they go through...including the incredible amount of money they make, which is they reason they do it. It's not dirty or anything like that. Doesn't show anything, I don't think there's even nudity in it. It's more about the industry, than what they actually do. Other than that...I watch an episode of Wonder Years every night, awesome show. Lol. Weeds, House of Cards, Scandal, Criminal Minds...my list is quite long. (Wish they would put Homeland and Sopranos on there.) Quote

Interesting but damn I would die if one of those girls was my daughter leaving home to find excitement and getting mixed up with these guys. Sobering that most of the girls only last a few months and are pushed aside by the hot ' new ' girls that are continually entering the industry. Sad really. Quote
shrader Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 It doesn't help that I watched it after finishing Daredevil, but the third season of Orange is the New Black was really really bad. I think my wife may be done with it after this one, so I won't have to watch any more of it. Quote

I can't point to any particular reason other than I just grew tired of it, I guess. Quote
Drunkard Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 I just finished Orange is the New Black as well and was disappointed. The director is Jenji Kohan who also directed the US version of Weeds. That show started off awesome as well before jumping the shark after a couple of seasons so I guess that seems to be her MO. Quote

You'd think that since it's a prison show, she wouldn't be able to constantly change the location like she did with Weeds. Instead, with all the endless backstories, she managed to do just that. I have been staring at them in stores for some time yet, but have not bought one yet. I was leaning toward the Sony. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Although 4k panels are very nice, the rest of the home entertainment industry has some catching up to do before the investment pays off. Quote
shrader Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 The tv talk has me curious. I just mounted my tv on the wall yesterday, and much like she said, I could go bigger. Quote

There are online calculators to determine if you will notice a difference between 1080p and 4k. Basically depending on screen size and seating distance, you may not. For example, 1080p and 720p TVs look identical if the screen is under 40" unless you're doing something silly like using it as a computer monitor and sitting a couple feet away. Quote

A 1080p TV is 1920x1080. 4K includes a few resolutions, but it looks like TV is mostly using UHD-1 which is 3840 x 2160, which means for each pixel of a 1080p tv, there's 4 on a 4K TV. Cinema 4K is 4096 x 2160 which is where the name comes from (4K in computer terms is 4096). In short, for the same size panel it'll look sharper, but as someone mentioned up-thread, if you're a certain distance from the TV your eyes won't be able to tell the difference. I hate Piper. Hate her! Best part was Red photo bombing scenes with "It's not my food" and walking away. Loved the Black Cindy storyline and still am in love with Crazy Eyes. She is the best reason to watch this show. Quote
