shrader Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 You're welcome. That's the fun part about analytics: it doesn't care about any of this. Player X scores Y PPG then goes to the NHL and scores (Y PPG x 82 x NHLe factor). Ain't no Z age. Ain't no W height. Ain't no R fatass. It's predictive, and there are limits, but the player could be scoring two points per game in juniors while shitting his diaper, and the math wouldn't care. It would if they used better math.
Robviously Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) I'm impressed with how accurate that is. Thanks for doing that Very true. But Eichel is also 6'2" and 194 lbs to Gaudreau's 5'9" 150lbs. I mean, the kid can't even fit in his jersey. He looks like he was violently pulled from NeverLand Holy Crap, it's RUFIO! WildCard Posted April 26, 2015 Report Posted April 26, 2015 Skip to the 1:30 mark to see a pretty sweet move by Eichel
GrassValleyGreg Posted April 26, 2015 Report Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) WyldnWoody brought it up in the Playoff thread: he asked who Johnny hockey was so when I was looking up a link to give him I noticed he spent last season in the NCAA playing for BC. It was his third season playing for BC, and he put up 36-44-80 in 40 games. He then went on to put up 24-40-64 in 80 gp in the NHL his rookie year (this year). So, I think that sets a decent precedent for Eichel. Granted Gaudreau gets to have Monahan center him, I still think Eichel is capable of putting up better numbers than Gaudreua did, especially with Kane and Ennis as line-mates. Thoughts? Hey IKP, if you're willing I'm really interested in what Gaudreau's NHLe was for his most recent BC season. Gaudreau is not even close to the overall player Eich is. Ones a quick handed gnat, the others a physically dominating thoroughbred. Also, Eich had 70 pts as an 18 year old to Johnny's 80 at 20. Big two years there. Edited April 27, 2015 by GrassValleyGreg
WildCard Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 If you're wondering what he plays like without the puck or want a view of him that isn't just the same goals we keep seeing, here is his entire game in the WJC against Germany. It's a compilation of Eichel's shifts. The commentary guy is really annoying, so just mute him. Gaudreau is not even close to the overall player Eich is. Not really sure what you're driving at here; I agree with everything you're saying, I'm just pointing out the transition from the NCAA to the NHL for rookies. Gaudreau put up similar numbers before he made the jump, so I thought it might give us a decent look at what Eichel's rookie season will be. They definitely do play two vastly different games, and Eichel's is more suitable to the NHL level, so hopefully he eclipses Gaudrea's Calder Finalist year
TrueBlueGED Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 I get an ear-to-ear grin on my face every time I watch Eichel highlights.

My new porn. I think that U17 6-5 shootout win against Canada emphasizes the truly exciting storyline here: Captain Canada v. Captain America. Another reason I was happy to see Edmonton win over Arizona. It has now solidified a true blockbuster rivalry that transcends both team and city. Buffalo is lucky to have such a huge share of the franchise. The NHL will be better for it, and USA youth hockey will be better for it. And we'll be at the center of it all.
Stoner Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Pretty, pretty solid and smooth. I didn't get the farewell vibe.
That Aud Smell Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 I didn't get the farewell vibe. I heard several "it's been's" and "made's" -- sounded like he was looking at his time at BU in the rearview mirror.

Doohicksie Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 I hope he's with the Sabres this summer, but if he stays another year at BU that gives the Sabres the luxury of playing their young centers more to see where they rank and who needs to be moved (to the wing or traded to another team). Without Eichel we can pencil Reinhart in as #1 center, then sort through Girgs, Grigo, Larsson, and maybe McCormick to see who the centers will be and where they fall in the pecking order. To me this is probably one of the most important things the Sabres need to do and taking Eichel out of the mix means more playing time at center for the other guys so the Sabres can better assess who goes where.

That is exactly what I have been thinking. He gets another shot to win it all with a great young team at the NCAA level. The Sabres get see what they have under the age of 23 already signed. Doohicksie Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 It also lowers expectations for another year so the new coach and GMTM have a ready excuse for not making the playoffs if they miss out.
WildCard Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Eichel gains nothing in the way f becoming a better player by staying there, so that hurts Buffalo. Also, after two seasons of this the fans are ready to watch actual hockey again, and him staying in BU will kill ticket sales, jersey sales, promotional events, etc. Short of injuries and a terrible draft/FA, Eichel staying in BU is the worst thing that could happen for the Sabres this summer.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 I really don't see any way that he will go pack to BU. He is ready for prime time. Something that he has waited and worked very hard his whole life for.
Hoss Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) BU is losing Rodrigues and O'Connor. They're gaining a few good forwards in Max Letunov and Jordan Greenway. Either way I don't think Eichel goes back. They likely won't be as good in goal (despite O'Connor's failures down the road). Edited April 27, 2015 by Hoss
LGR4GM Posted April 27, 2015 Author Report Posted April 27, 2015 As much fun as it is to speculate, we could always wait until shortly after the draft to see if he signs with Buffalo. Frankly right now I am more interested in his Worlds game and how he stacks up against men.

And a couple other forwards projected as first/second round picks in the next two drafts, along with the son of a former Terrier/NHLer they're trying to recruit right now. They're bringing in a ton of talent and they're more than likely planning on using Eichel's scholarship for someone else.
